March Chassis Numbers
We have a 1980 March formula Atlantic in the shop. Chassis number on the plate is #21. Arch Motors number on the front bulkhead is "80-052". An additional number stamped on the upper portion of the chassis plate is "8 52"
The obvious correlation is intriguing but I feel not exact. Can anyone reference these numbers? Obviously the AM number is clear. |

March are similar to Brabham,in that the AM No is not related to the chassis No . It does however tell you that you have a 1980 Car.

March Chassis Numbers
I am aware the AM 80-52 indicates the tub is the 52nd made by Arch Motors in 1980. However, the number "8 52" stamped on the chassis plates seems a bit too close to the AM number for coincidence. Did March transpose the AM numbers onto the chassis plates (and maybe left out the zero?)
Hi Allen. Yes, we are reasonably certain this is the last March 80A tub, sent to Shierson to replace the one Price Cobb destroyed (at Lime Rock I think.) It has several unique mods that apparently were done at Shierson's that are only found on other Shierson cars. We have records showing it did the latter part of the 1980 pro season. Charlie
Would the debut be 2nd at Elkhart Lake? Then won Trois Rivieres, 2nd Bridgehampton, Montreal don't know, and 3rd Mexico city. Was this the car used by Cobb at Long Beach in 1981 or had it already passed to another owner? Who are the subsequent owners in the history? Trying to trace identity of 80As used by Ed Midgeley [Foxwood Motorsports] Patrick Garmyn and several others in 81 - 83 Chris |

Cobb March
Chris,
As far as we know that is the car. Will search for the Montreal results. Our history after the season is spotty but will look into it a bit more. Car surfaced a couple of years ago in Indianapolis owned by a Gary Dausch. He "restored" the car. Then went through a couple of other hands before we got it. It now has been truly restored. |

March 1980 Atlantic
OK guys, we have another 1980 March atlantic. Chassis number 12, with an AM number of 80-47. Supposedly a Howdy Holmes car but we have no concrete info. Does anyone have any data on this car? One (seemingly) unique aspect of the car (as received) is a set of large secondary wing elements that were mounted above the rearmost section of the side pods, just foreward of the rear tires. These are not deflectors but true aerofoils.
