The rumour about Ralf's sexuality is not new, I remember hearing of it last year. I think they're just (rightly) jealous of him for having such a good looking wife. Next to Montoya, who is ultra-macho, tough, fiercely competitive and takes no bullspit, very few people look manly, so I don't think he is.

Obviously it's very upsetting for anyone to have stuff written about them like this, but if he's not carefull, Rafe will find himself out of the Williams drive next season.

I don't suppose that Sir Frank is too happy paying Rafe x ammount of dollars when JPM is doing a much better job on a quater of that price, this may just be the thing that Sir frank needs to push Rafe out and get a cheaper driver to do as gooda job.

Well, now's certainly a great time to go driver shopping. Fisichella, Villeneuve, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Bourdais and Enge, I'm sure, would all jump at that seat for next year (Bourdais and Enge could even fill it before the year is out, as could Anthony Davidson, but he's probably looking to compete with Sato over Jacques' race seat for next year).

Absolutely nothing at all, but it does look as though it has destabilised Rafe for the moment. He did not look anything like his 'old' self in qualifying, but if your mind is on other problems, it is hardly surprising, is it? But then that is the press for you. A sniff of a story and all the worms come out of the woodwork, true or otherwise. A lot of journo's make stuff up, including alleged quotes, so unless Rafe is actually seen on live TV giving said quotes, take evrything with a pinch of salt... that's what I do anyway!

In about 1997, Ralf supposedly had a fling with "Jordan" (Katie Price - for those who don't know, she's a page 3 girl, horrendously ugly with a chest so big she should be walking on all fours) and apparently he wasn't too interested in her, and since then there have been rumours that he's gay. Too much has been made of them though, because anybody in F1 is there because they drive a car well, not because they're gay, straight or purple with green polka dots.

Hardly surprising he's had a face on all weekend with stupid press rumours on his mind. Love him or loathe him, there's no arguing with the fact that he (and his family) don't deserve to be put through all that.

Unfortunately, being in the Public eye makes one subject to all sorts of speculation in the Press. Having a very famous brother and a wife who was a celebrity in Germany in her own right merely intensifies that focus. Its sad that Ralf continues to attract this sort of notoriety while no proof has ever been offered. Quelle farce.

I think you'll find that's libel, not slander

It's much easier to bring a libel action than a slander one - libel means the thing that was said is in permanent form, slander is when it's just said

I have it on good authority that an F1 driver is gay - but I'm not saying who or who told me. To be honest the person who told me got thier ear chewed off cos its none of our business.

The only good authority you can count on in a situation like this is the person in question. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who are jealous of people who are successful and will say things to try to bring them down, and the most common thing to say about a sportsman is that he's gay, because then, even though I think there are much fewer homophobics around than there used to be, the idea of a sportsman being gay somehow makes him seem weaker.

Doesn't work for women though - Amelie Mauresmo is an openly lesbian tennis player and that seems to go in her favour because she's seen as being more macho!
