Does anybody actually think Renault will enter the BTCC in 2002 or are they being really serious when they say they won't? BTW - is this board slowing down?

And another thing this time about SEAT in the Rally News section of Autosport. Insiders at SEAT are saying that the Leon model is being developed as a Rally car, but a spokesman says, "There are plans for the Leon, but not in rallying." Will this be there ETCC car or will they decide on a BTCC car?

I really like the SEAT Leon and it would be interesting to see how SEAT do in touring cars. If the ETCC switch to the BTCC rules next year they may do both but I would prefer it in the BTCC.

Concerning Renault , there have been rumours flying around since the new rules were announced that they , along with Volvo and Honda may return in 2002. Lets hope they all do. [and some more as well]

I think it will be VW

The Bora almost became a BTCC Super Touring car.
I would not be surprised to see the Bora in BTCC and ETCC under the new rules.

While I had expected it to be Audi that would be back in Touring Cars, it is VW that are at the ETCC rules meetings.

Still, it could be their SEAT cousins that we see in Touring Cars, or even Audi. One of them will certainly be there.

It woyld be good to see a new face such as VW in the BTCC and the Bora is a very nice car.

Did Honda not leave in the first palce because they weren't wanting to develop the Civic for a years competition when a Coupe(am I correct???) is coming out next year. What year was it that VW were planning on entering? Am I right in thinking that they didn't enter because it wasn't worth developing a car for a few years?

I think they were planning on entering the 99/2000 season, but when all the ho-ha about the technical regs went all tits-up they nervously pulled out.

West Surrey were trying to persuade Honda to let them build BTC-T cars out of the Civic Type R which is yet to hit the streets here...
Wouldn't be surprised to see that car out there next year, but it looks like WSR are a little busy now...

Well, concerning that VW were at that meeting doesen't mean that Audi cannot enter Touring Car racing again. Volkswagen owns as you all for sure know Audi, Seat, Skoda etc.

I think that Volkswagen were present more as a representant for the whole VW-concern. Remember that Audi is doing Sportscars right now, Skoda rallying. So, that leaves Seat and Volkswagen. A spokesman for Seat has actually said that they are concidering rather a Touring Car entry than returning to Rallying. I dont think the VW concern likes fighting between Skoda and Seat in the WRC.

Contacts close tell me Renault are interested in making a return but are unsure of which car to use..the new laguna is too big leaving the megane, also Menu is close on the scene so don;t be suprised if the two get together again.

Be like old times when Volvo used an estate car!!
My contacts suggest Renault are going to see how this year goes with the new rules etc and then hopefully make a comeback next year, this time no Williams F1 connection.
Menu could be key to the return as Renault want to come back with

A) A top driver

B) One who has raced with them before.

lets hope any return is not as bad as their F1 season.

Renaults problem was that the Laguna is probably a little big (and was about to be replaced) whilst the Megane has yet to see a facelift plus doesn't sell a whole load in the UK...
