Music you would like to see for the BBC F1 intro
This is a thread for any songs you would like to see for the theme tune for when BBC take over F1 coverage.
Top should be Fleetwood Mac - The Chain and I think Europe - The Final Countdown would be a good alternative. Any more? |

Ideas for support events as F1 should/must get The Chain.
Shatter - Feeder Blitzkrieg - Deathstars (YT link as it's obscure) Benzin - Rammstein (OK, the lyrics factor won't work as they are in German) Discipline - Nine Inch Nails (More of an Outro) Clubbed To Death - Rob Dougan (cliche but good) |

Digressing slightly, but who does the music for the WTCC? It's awful.

I think it's probably something they commissioned (if it's the same one with a stupid synth sound, a guitar and lyrics like "race ... you wanna go faster blah blah blah). Same level of annoyance as scouting for girls.

There are many Satriani tunes that would fit.
However, it still has to be The Chain. It just fits. I know it isn't niche enough, or wacky or original and perhaps a tad old fashioned (although good music doesn't actually age at all) but it just... the radio station at work plays The Chain quite often (the full version obviously), say once a week, and it just has something spine tingling about it. |

The Chain is the only song they should use. As long as it's the original, and not that remix they used for the WRC coverage a few years ago.

No, we need to be back to the mid 90's. We need Kevin Keegan back at Newcastle, Take That are back, we must go back in time completely.
Surfing With The Alien would be good. They used that for the '95 Indy 500, and it really worked well. But would that be necessarily moving on? If we move on, we end up with some appalling Arctic Monkeys or Kaiser Chiefs track. Although I do know what you mean. |

I am sure it'll be The Chain. What will be interesting to see is if there's anything different for the support races and if the intro will be used on the interactive coverage.

Joe Satriani's music is glossy, self-indulgent twaddle enjoyed only by teenage boys and social misfits.
So yeah, it would fit perfectly. |

Maybe
[sarcasm on] 'Its all about you' by Mcfly with a video of a Ferrari in the background or 'Its not about you' by Scouting for Girls with a video of mclaren in the background of course sponsored by the FIA [sarcasm off] Heard a song earlier that would have been just right but i can't remember which song it was |

Some of Satch's stuff is pretentious, mind, and his output for the last ten years has been frankly dire. But before that his material was well fab. Great live act too. |

It has to be something proper, guitars, drums and not the synth based rubbish ITV have always used - it's so unballsy. The music Setanta use is quite good mind.
I think great as it was, leave The Chain in the past and move on. How about Master of Puppets by Metallica - very apt I would have thought...Berni E could have written that himself, must check the credits... She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult would be pretty good, as would Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden. Remember that in an energy drink ad with Daly Thompson yonks back, it was class. Like The Chain, both these tunes build up nice and slow before launching full on. Like the red lights going out eh...? |

I still reckon they should just use The Chain, though. I simply do not think there is a better option out there. |

I think anything BUT The Chain would be good. To be honest, that era of F1 is over. It's time to move on, folks.
I wouldn't want the memories of The Chain and proper F1 sullied with today's over-engineered robot-driven borefest. |

The Chain is the only decent piece of music associated with motorsport.
If ever I'm watching any form of racing on the TV, the music is invariably absolutely horrendous. The sub-Feeder dross that accompanies the WTCC being the most prominent example I can think of. |

Well, all I know is that if I am in my car, and The Chain comes on, F1 comes instantly to mind, the bass is put right up, the volume is turned up, speakers are ruined, and I am rather happy.
It sure is going to back to the past, and that can absolutely be a bad thing at times, but in this case I just don't see it like that. It is simply iconic with respect to F1, and, for me, is by far and away the best option. That said, I won't commit suicide if (when?) it isn't used. I just hope, if it is something else, that it isn't something terrible. |

Well said Chris. What is this obsession with The Chain, you'll be wanting Alain Prost driving and Murray Walker commentating as well.
Given that The Chain hasn't been used for F1 coverage for ten years, how many of today's viewers would actually make the connection. |

I would say The Chain like everyone else, but that was a song for when F1 had racing, and was thrilling to watch. With the way F1 is at the moment i couldn't care what the theme tune is as its hardly worth watching apart from the first 5 laps and then the highlights.
