DTM, Hockenheim Round 1
Ekstrom on pole from Paffet, Green and Fassler - three makes in the top four!
A lack of testing for McNish and Hakkinen shows - they start 14th and 15th. Just 1.3 secs covers the whole field in qualifying - looking forward to an excellent race. |

It's great to see Green and Spengler so high up. I hope they keep it up tomorrow.

Only one Opel in the top 10, and only 3 Audi's.
With the notable exception of Hakkinen, Mercedes on the whole are the strongest - though Mattias is still on top form in the new A4. Kristensen fluffed his lap, else he was looking strong. Good showing from Green first time out to be second of the Mercedes. It's going to be an 'interesting' race for sure - with McNish, Hakkinen and Frentzen fighting at the back. |

Spengler looks like someone to keep an eye on - he's in a 2004 spec car.

Great to see Paffet and Green doing so well, especially Green seeing as this is his first race weekend in a DTM car. Still, we should all remember none of the tracks arent anymore new to him than the others as he was in F3 Euroseries last year, yes yes I know people like Kristenesen and Mcnish have been on a few of the circuits more than him, but im talking generally. 6 Mercedes in the top 10, can Ekstrom keep them all behind him? I hope not. Would be great if we could get both Brits finishing on the podium tommorow.

Really looking forward to this championship over the coming year. Too many great drivers to get behind just one, but I hope the Brits all do well. 1.3 secs covering a wide range of drivers and styles bodes very well.

He's like James Allen multiplied by 100 then add on another 1000 for good measure...
Actually, I think it was Peter Dumbreck who was talking about the same team running 04 and 05 cars..whom I'd like to believe has a good level of knowledge too. Seems a pretty cynical guy as well. |

There was rain during the F3 race so perhaps it's going to be a wet race. Could be interesting.

Sporadic updates on any major happenings would be appreciated - too busy around the apartment here to follow it via live chat or streaming video.

Great race...good for Mercedes.
My man of the race though is Abt...(would have been Fassler if he kept the pace up) - falling to the back and then moving forward to 4th in the old Audi is an incredible acheivement, and beating the until today unstoppable looking Ekstrom, also fantastic. Not too pleased with the commentary performance...it's not exactly their fault but their were more bad calls with car identification than right ones. The fact that all the HWA Mercedes are silver bar one doesn't help, and Audi's new schemes mean you first need to work out if the car is a 2005 or 2004 one before looking at the scheme to spot the driver with the exception of the Red Bull cars hardly helps either. Grrr. |

Solid job from Mika Hakkinen to take a point on his debut.

For those watched the coverage, was Alesi's win a fairly earned one or did he win it thru good pitwork? While Schneider and Hakkinen got drive thrus which helped him out?

You can't win this much by a good pit stop. Alesi drove a very very good race.

Alesi & Schneider stunning drives...Schneider may have beaten him if he didn't have a drive through...but since Alesi didn't jump the start, and Schneider did...it's Alesi's win - fair & square.

Without penalties, Schneider would have been 1st or 2nd and Mika 3rd or 4th

Without the crash in the first round maybe Kristensen could have been 1st or 2nd
Hakkinen drove 104 km/h in the pit lane (max speed is 60 km/h). His own fault. |
