Mike Pendleton 1960's Formula Junior/Sports Cars/Touring Cars

I'm doing some research on my grandfather, Mike Pendleton. He competed in several disciplines during the early 60's.

A brief overview of his racing career:
  • pre-60 : I think he may have started his racing career driving a Lotus SS, but I don't have any more information
  • 1960-61 : competed in Formula Junior in a Condor Ford. Car developed by his good friends Ted Whiteaway and Mike Thorburn.
  • 1962 : purchased the Lister-Costin (#BHL130) from Mike Anthony. Registered the car with number YCD 422. Raced in sports car races across England.
  • 1963 : purchased Lotus 19 (#953) which he raced around the UK and overseas. Race of note, 1963 Nassau Speedweek in the Bahamas.
  • 1964 : raced the ex-Salvadori Jaguar MkII 3.8 (1628 VC) around the UK and Europe, with John Sparrow.
If anybody has any stories/photos/information on him I would love to hear from you!

Thanks for coming on Oliver.
Interesting activities your Grandad did back then.
It must have cost a small fortune to get out to Nassau in those days let alone take a car?

Hello Oliver

Hopefully you are still about on this forum and can read this.

I will have a look through the many photos I have of my late father,s (Mike Thorburn). My mum is still with us and speaks very well of uncle Mick. My elder brother remembers being taken round Silverstone by Mick as a small boy in I think the Lister or could be the Lotus (you would get shot for that now lol). I sure he would like to tell you that story. Your Grand Grandfather, Ted Whiteaway and my father were by all accounts as thick as thieves! I grew up with many stories of them and the things they got up to.
