Kiesa to Minardi!
SOURCE:WWW.FORMULA-3000.NET
Nicolas Kiesa will drive for Minardi in Formula One for the remainder of the 2003 season after 2001 F3000 champion Justin Wilson moved to Jaguar. The Dane is in his second season of F3000 and currently lies sixth in the championship with one race victory. Kiesa previously raced in British and German F3, and is backed by Peugeot of Denmark. At last weekend's Silverstone F3000 race he drove for Jordan Junior, after the Den Bla Avis team with which he started the season withdrew from the championship. Kiesa's departure means Derek Hill is likely to return to the Jordan Junior team, however either Philip Giebler or Robbie Kerr could take the drive if Hill cannot find sufficient sponsorship. ENDS:/ Another great F3000 driver making it into F1. Thats 2 in the space of a year. Who says F3000 is no longer the feeding ground for F1? Good luck to Kiesa though, I think hes going to find it tough with no testing in a F1 car.. |

So? Wilson is a great driver. He deserves his spot at Minardi, IMO Pizzonia never really deserved a spot in F1. At least not yet, although having said that he has started to improve, not least outqualifying his more experinced team-mate at Silverstone.

Good for him, a different backmarker in F1... I'm sure he'll make F3000 proud mirk:
F3000 is indeed a feeder for F1...F1's backmarkers that is. |

Wilson, Pizzaboy, Kiesa - that's 3 in the space of a year isn't it?
Why start you own thread when there's already one for Kiesa joining Minardi? |

Oh ok, But as I said there isnt one on this board, and this is the board which concerns Kiesa, as he races in F3000 (although not for long) which is why I put one here. Whats the big deal in doing a thread regarding a F3000 driver moving into F1? This is the board to be discussing that after all, especially as its F3000 related.

This thread needs to be directed to really be worthwhiel. Concentrate it on a) F3000 guys graduating to F1 and b) who might replace Kiesa.
Derek Hill's sponsorship is supposedly shaky (and his 'talent' certainly is) so I wouldn't be surprised if someone completely new takes that ride, Kerr or Giebler would be good though, but it's sad to see Gary Paffett out of a drive. |

reserve and test drivers, unless they're testing for one of the top teams rarely get anywhere. That's like saying, "you're sacked, have a fruit basket!" They do a ****load of work for the team, and get almost nothing in return. In fact, I'd say a driver's better off competing in the lower levels than just testing F1 full time.

Or doing something like Montangy or Gene does Jay. Where hthey test for their respective teams, Willams and Renault on a full time basis and race in the SWS at the same time. I agree with u when u say that its pointless just testing full time for a race team and never getting a real chance to race. Still its not a bad way to make a good living, as Badoer, if ur content with that, that is.

these young f1 drivers (certainly pizzonia) get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for the race season. whats with the pity bs. just by getting to f1 they are guaanteed a successful career in racing in some other racing catergory. so pleeeeeaaaasssseee lets maintain some perspective here people.
if i'm paying someone about 1 mil a year i expect consistancy and results. its not lie pizzonia is driving for free. |

Kiesa is not that "great". He was pretty fun to watch in F3000 but only saleen wouldn't be able to see that Kiesa's Peugeot money got him the ride more than his talent did.

The Supanova seat will go to the driver that finds the funds the team wants first, usually that price alters if the driver is fast and can bring the team sucess.
Phil Giebler was the first choice of David Sears for the DBA seat, because of his talent, which he showed despite very difficult circumstances and a very serious shoulder injury. If Phil is able to find the required funds I'm sure he'll do a good job for the team. Remember Phil has had no testing whatsoever in the car and is running at circuits he's never seen before. Robbie Kerr may need a break, and is a very talented driver, but what is he doing to help get himself into a drive, I know how hard some drivers have worked, including Phil, to get to the current stage of their careers. HOw can anyone honestly say that Phil doesn't derserve a shot at the supanova seat? |

Dan Flag it's all about money!...Not talent believe me! I've known them both for years in karting, niether are anything special just experienced.
Kiesa is going to struggle big time with his neck, the streering (very heavy in a Minardi) and learning how to get the best from the tyres. EG: The fastest F3000 race lap at Silverstone was 14 seconds slower than the fastest Minardi qualifying lap!!! Hehehe...opps shouldn't laugh really...and we all thought F1 was the formula for the worlds best drivers...now it's only true of the top teams, the rest is just F1 Race Hire....Next boy with a cheque please! |

Being good at karting does not mean you will be a good racing driver! Get over it HC...
Kiesa within 3/10ths of Verstappen in first practice. |
