Pirelli World Challenge Rounds 14 and 15: Mid-Ohio
Next up for Pirelli World Challenge's GT and GTS classes is Mid-Ohio!
Going to try to make the road trip out there, will be my first time to Mid-Ohio. Been wanting to go for years, so I'm looking forward to it! Entry List changes: Dan Knox's #80 Viper is not on the list, and it looks like the #25 Lamborghini has Austin Cindric behind the wheel instead of it's regular driver (and Nurburgring 24 winner) Nick Catsburg. As a result, it's entered in GTA instead of GT this weekend. Should be a great event. Good to see a favorable weather forecast, given some of the memorable sports car races held at Mid Ohio over the years.

He's shown to be quick in pretty much everything he's jumped in. Great skills coming from that young man.

Yeah he's shown he's got some talent behind the wheel for sure. It saddens me when people write him off as getting rides just because of who his dad is (prolly helps no doubt) but he's certainly deserving of a seat on merit alone. |

We have our first yellow (technically the second, after the stall on the start) but I must say the series has taken what I feel are better procedures since the beginning of the season on when to throw a yellow, and to get back to green quicker, much props to them! Some decent racing out there...

Neither Viper showed up to one of the more important races of the year. Keep hoping to see more of the snakes but it's just not happening.
I do recall seeing guys in SRT shirts working on the cars at Long Beach, thinking there was still some sort of factory support, but it probably doesn't compare to the other brands selling GT3's. |

Race 2 has just started.
I don't need to tell you what happened, do I... Even Jeremy Shaw can't hide his frustration. It was Dyson this time, as opposed to Leizinger yesterday. |

Why dont they just move to rolling starts?
Its what you end up with anyway after the inevitable stall and safety car. |

I found it interesting that Shaw described a move away from standing starts as "regrettable" not ten seconds after blasting them and saying how unsuitable they are. I said in an earlier race that PWC seem to think standing starts are a USP that need to be kept at all costs. More fool them.

I like the standing starts - the resultant groaning tweets remind me to go the website and watch the beginning of the race

Also mentioned during that race was something about the Acuras going to RWD and maybe getting GT3 homologation. I thought all GT3 cars had to be 2-door cars?

I heard at Mid-Ohio that the Acura TLX will be two-wheel drive next year, and that the NSX GT3 could debut about a year from now!

Got back from Mid Ohio yesterday. My crazy brother decided at the last minute to make the trip happen, so I tagged along. It was AWESOME!!
First trip ever to Mid-Ohio, it really is a very beautiful circuit. Loads of interesting corners with far more elevation changes than it appears on television. There is a lot of catch fencing, but the track still offers some fantastic photo opportunities. SPOILER ALERT. The racing was fantastic all weekend, especially for Effort Racing Porsche fans! Ryan Dalziel must really love that track. TRG was absent from Road America due to a conflict, so it was great to see the Astons in action. It was cool to see the De La Torre's British racing green Vantage GT3 racing this weekend also. Congratulations to Alec Udell on his first GTcup victory and also to Bryan Heitkotter on earning his graduation to the GT pro class! Young Austin Cindric was also very impressive in the Reiter entry. GTS race one was especially exciting. That class has put on great racing all season. Both Saturday and Sunday, the park was absolutely packed with fans. Overall a fantastic weekend.(even the open wheel racing was fun. ) After attending two straight PWC events, it will feel kinda strange to watch the next round via streaming. |
