My visit to the Unser Racing Museum - Albuquerque - New Mexico - Sat Oct 23rd 2010

Hi everyone,

I have just returned from a wonderful 6 weeks vacation " Across the Pond ".

3 weeks in Wisconsin with my dear friend Claire and then 3 weeks with another of my dear friends, Johanna who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Apart from seeing Kenny Rogers in Concert ( He is still amazing and visiting the awesome Grand Canyon in Arizona plus loads of other wonderful places ), Johanna and I went to see the Unser Racing Museum in Albuquerque last Saturday week.

It was a fascinating few hours at the museum and I will be downloading the fotos to my Photobucket Account as soon as possible and post the link on here.

I will also post a few shots directly on here.

I am sure some of you from the UK have been there and I am looking forward to sharing my fotos with you all.

Nitey nite

Paula

PS. We also saw the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta held over Oct 2nd to Oct 10th. Fantastic is all that I can say with people entering from all over the world.

See: http://www.balloonfiesta.com/

and: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albuque...Balloon_Fiesta

Here we go.

I see that I cannot upload my piccies directly to this thread so here's the first Photobucket batch of fotos including the 1987 Penske which was probably Al Unser Snr's most famous and unexpected Indy 500 win.

See: http://s375.photobucket.com/albums/o...%20Oct%202010/

I will upload more shots tomorrow as it's way past my bedtime.

Paula yawns !!!!

Nite

Paula

Hiya,

My pleasure hun.

The Unsers are an amazing family and it was a privilege to go round their museum.

They have had to endure so much through tragedy to utter joy.

I have enormous respect for them.

A few years back both Al and Al Jnr were at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and I took photograhs of them which Al Snr signed the following year.

I would also like to say a special thank you to the staff there who told Johanna and I so much about the cars, the family and so on.

I can't wait to go back again and study all the exibits in greater detail.

Two to three hours was simply not enough.

See: http://www.unserracingmuseum.com/

I have posted some more fotos just now with still lots more to come.

Enjoy ...

Paula ( determined to get an earlier night )

PS. Please click on link above on my 2nd post in this thread as AOL & Photobucket drive me mad .............

Paula, thanks again...the engine photos are spectacular!

I think I can name the engines, but if you have a description to scan it would be awesome. The "RFRE" looks like a Ryan Falconer twin turbo V6, and I doubt there were many of those around. And I think the second one is the original 4 cam Ford?

Hiya,

Sorry I have not got back to you sooner but had PC problems.....

My friend Johanna (fortunately) took a foto of the display board behind the engines and I have cropped the one here on Photobucket.

You can zoom in on the foto and read most of the detail.....

Take care

Paula

Hi James,

Merci beaucoup ....

It really is worth going and try and combine your visit with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta which is held every year in early October.

See link in my first post on this thread.

The climate is awesome once you have acclimatised to the 7000' height above sea level.

I did get out of breath the first week I was there and had the occasional nose bleed.

The Sandia Peak Tramway behind ABQ is worth a visit too.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandia_Peak_Tramway

It is the third longest span in the world.

Take care

Paula

Thanks Guys,

I enjoyed sharing with you.

Chances are that I will be back in Albuquerque next year, so I will get more fotos.
