GMR / Team Braun... 4 Cars?
PRESS RELEASE:
Greg Murphy Racing - Team Braun have signed New Zealand International Fabian Coulthard and Australian Formula Ford graduate Tony Pugliese for this year’s Ten-round Australian Carrera Cup Championship. Coulthard will head the team’s confirmed three-car program driving the car Tim Leahey used to good effect in last year’s inaugural title fight, while Pugliese has agreed on an option to join the team for testing duties and race experience in the event of a substitute driver being required. Regular drivers Peter Hill and Roger Oakeshott will also return for more Carrera Cup action, while Leahey is close to securing a budget to re-join the team in a potential fourth entry. Round one of the 2004 Carrera Cup Series commences on the streets of Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 meeting to be held during the weekend of March 18-21. |

It is serious, but two of the three, four or five are gentleman racers... so its not like there are 5 genuine contenders.
How they can do this and look after Tasman as well could be interesting |

Or enough to fill one car
GT3 Cup cars finished 3rd & 4th in the 2003 24hr, the 3rd placed one was not running totally in that spec, but was 95% the same. I still maintain a Porsche with the right crew, drivers and tyres would give the 24hr a serious shake. |

Methinks Mr Murphy would not be allowed to drive anything but a Monro.
Also, now we know what Tony Pugliese is doing in 04, what about his ex-teammate Mr Hastings? |

Its dependent on money of course, but seems highly likely.

Apart from being impractically wide, what would a TraNZam go like in the 24 Hour race? It must be easy to get them reliable and the sound of the wide open burble down Conrod....n-i-c-e!

Exactly what I was thinking.
Still be good to see Hans Stuck and Derek Bell deal to the Mountain in a Porsche 962. That would be fast and reliable! |

Bathurst will be better because of the long straights to cool the tyres, and a rework of the tyres used into a conventional Michelin or Pirelli solution may help things here.
A Mosler is not that far away in spec to a TransAm, and it can make tyres survive several cycles |

A TraNZam car wouldn't get accepted because they don't have opening doors.

That Amin Chadha EL XR8 Future Tourer managed to go for 24 hrs, which surprised me... braking distances were about double those of just about anything else, yet they still knocked out a 2.33 for fastest lap.
And havent you guys watched the Dukes of Hazzard? They dont need doors to get into the General Lee |

Ok you lot, how hard would it be to modify a TraNZam body to give it hinged doors?
I am sure you could build it solidly to go for 24 hours. |
