[V8SC09R18] SuperCheap Auto Bathurst 1000, Mt Panorama Bathurst NSW (Now with poll!)
Another enduro comes and goes...
.. who can bet against the lead HRT car, or the lead 888 car based on current form? And FPR were there or there abouts as well. Mark Skaife to grow another leg and be more competitive than Sandown? Can #25 keep up the hot pace of the leaders, when there is doubt about the second pilot? Can #22 fly with the old bloke and young buck at the wheel? Or is there someone else... only 4 weeks till we find out! |

i'll be putting a quiet bet on #17, and maybe a place bet (can you do that?) on #18
if we have another "drive of the race" similar to Mr Perkins a few years ago, then the lead HRT car might be gone by the 2nd corner. 1 more incident or mechanical drama like that throughout the day and DJR could be looking good, as long as it isn't DJR causing said incident or having said drama |

#888, #2, #5 (if Richo switches on), #17, #7 are the contenders.
#33 (after their PI performance slip back to this category), #34, #18, #22, #9, #51 are the dark horses. i know a third of the field but i like to hedge my bets. |

Watch both #17 JBR & #5 FPR, could cause a big upset at the mount, but I feel for Brighty, car has pace, but the 2nd driver will hurt him badly.

It would be too easy to name the contenders. So I will...
1. Whincup/Lowndes 2. Tander/Davison 3. Courtney/Johnson 4. Winterbottom/BPB 5. van Gisbergen/Davison I reckon any more than that would be considered pretenders. But you never know, it's a long race. Look at how well Mr Besnard drove at PI. The Kelly's did ok apart from the ol' ballbuster syndrome and/or mechanical gremlins. I dont think anyone will get the win apart from 1 and 2. You got a sneak peek at their sheer pace at PI, with no safety cars to bunch em up. Triple 8 will be bloody hard to stop. |

I'm predicting the #17 Courtney/Johnson combo should bring it home on the big day.
#2 car will slip its clutch all the way up Mountain straight again from the start too.. 888 turncoat cars will also be smited by God who as we know drives a Ford. |

The sand trap at the esses has been hotmixed over now, so if a carmakes a mistake going over skyline they may have a chance of pulling it up on the tar instead of ploughing thru the sandtrap. The council were also doing some work at Forests elbow to the wall and tyre barrier on the outside of the corner.
A word of warning for anyone driving up for the races. 100 extra Highway Patrol on duty within a 200km radius of bathurst and 24hr shifts. You have been warned!! |

Still think #33 looks strong for a podium finish. Very poor pace on Friday and Saturday, Sunday was much like the form we've seen from GRM for the majority of this year. Caruso went from 17th to 9th in the first 3 laps (that silly PI 'qualifying' system didn't help), then got held up by Dumbrell for a few laps. Once Robbo cleared PD he quickly gapped him and then latched onto the back of the 4-5 car group ahead of him. Pit strategy didn't help (hard to blame anyone), Simonsen went blind for about 3 seconds and poor old Bradley Jones forgot his brake marker. It just goes to show the crap that you have to deal with when you are racing with guys who are consistently slower than you.
Based on PI, nobody will touch #2 or #888. Race for third will be good - #33, #17, #7, #6. Don't really rate anyone else. Dark horse could come from #18, #5, #34, #9. (Can you imagine how good the race could be if 888 and 2 take each other out? It would open up the race!!!) |

Woohoo, us Europeans have just received word that we'll have 10 hours of live coverage from Bathurst thanks to Motors TV!
Will be sleeping all day on Sunday so after staying up all Saturday night. |
