Oaksnaf should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
AMRS Winton this weekend

The AMRS is once again on show at Winton this year and I will be there once again, hoping for a bit of that Island sunshine aswell.

Does anyone have an entry list for all the categories, the ptcc are reporting they have over 10 cars entered for the weekend and if all show that would be a great improvement.

I know Luke Searle was a definite, and I believe Peter Kelly will be back in his 130i as well. Was told that there could be up to 3 Protons running - not sure where the extra two have come from though.

Wow, looks like a pretty solid line up. Should be some very good racing with decent car counts (pity about f4000 numbers though). Good to see the series growing after a few shaky instances!

I was talking to some people who were in attendance on the weekend,

The first TCC handicap race was arrarently great, one person i spoke with said the handicap was perfect! look forward to the tv.

Unfortunatly Race 3 was a joke with a red flag, several cars overheated and in a panic the startly let the cars go early in each group. which was probally a good idea. to save the cars.

PTCC had a big field compared to normal meetings 12 in all, talk is there are 3 more for calder.

The 3 leaders Searle, Kelly and Miedieke ran away with it but the Bulk of class B and C were mixing it up..

At least by Red Flagging it and declaring a full restart the handicap wasn't eliminated by deploying the Safety Car so the guys at the front still had a chance to win it.

The handicap concept is interesting but needs more refinement in practice to give all competitors a chance.Just grouping in a limited number of groups is not sufficient to achieve that.In the Thundersports group a car with a lap time in excess of nearly 4 seconds a lap faster time was grouped with the next 2 fastest cars who for example-- the cars they were 3 seconds faster than were given a 35 second start! Can't quite work out how that was "fair"!
On the positive side of the ledger -it was quite a good meeting-- handicapper did get TCC race close as the quickest cars came together over the last lap for very close result. For the first time ever I have to praise the street based cars-- I have always found them pretty uninspiring in whatever series-- the leading cars were being driven hard and were actualy entertaining, all it needs is more cars.

Very Good write up in Auto Action as well. Everyone I spoke to thought it was a terrific meeting and everyone is looking forward to the last two meetings and expecting a much bigger 2007.

It was a good meeting with a good atmosphere and despite some small fields the racing was entertaining. F4000's really do sound great -- generally the cars seemed to look better than when I last saw them and have the signs of getting their act together.I love the 2 Litre tourers and Bryce Peter-Budge in the Peugot had some very credible lap times and the car looked and sounded terrific..The other observation is the future racers in Thundersports. After very unfortunate start to life for these cars and their very similar spec to another exuisting class , they seemed to have found a home in Thundersports. They sound like racing cars, but, the body--it is atrocious. To me thay would look far better with a sports/racing type body looking more like the West or the Prosport. This category is likely to have more sophisticated Sports./racing type cars in the future and the Future racers could create a class within a category of they look the part. What racing does not need is another pseudo Ford/Holden rubbish served up.Bite the bullet and give the car a body that looks the part. With a production based Sports/GT cars being talked about for next year in their own right it is the ideal opportunity for the neglected sports/racing cars to grow.
To Mathew and those at Winton that seem to need me to say something about Winton before they contibute, what a picture Winton looked on the weekend. A reminder why it is always a very pleasant place to go and the whole area greener than I have seen for a while.Well done to the way the track was presented.
