I'm about to take delivery of a new VCR that accepts both European and US VHS formats.
So I am now able to indulge my enthusiasm for a branch of motorsport that has been something of a blank. I can buy American NASCAR videos. Can anyone recommend any good titles? I am particularly interested in the historical side, and notably the '63/'64/'65 seasons, with the Fords of the time, and those great races in the late sixties/early seventies featuring the Plymouth Superbirds and Dodge Chargers. But anything with lots of race footage from pre '85 would be something to see. Any ideas, people? And anyone know of any US dealers and distributors they can recommend? Thanks! |

Sorry I dont have any suggestions for you Tim but I will be watching for replies as well. For me the '60s were the Golden Age of Stock Car Racing for the reasons you mentioned, and Petty, Pierson, Jr. Johnson, Fireball Roberts, and the fact that the cars really were 'stock' cars in many respects.
Happy viewing! |

Unfortunately being as big of a NASCAR fan that I am, you would think that I have a big collection. However, I don't own any historical videos because we get plenty of shows here on TV now and then that I can and have taped here and there on the backend of a tape of a race.
One that I would recommend if you can find it is NASCAR's 50th Anniversary Box Set which is a 5 tape collection. I tried to order this on www.amazon.com and it states that it isn't currently available on VHS format yet to check back later. I have seen several of the tapes on ESPN and missed taping a few others and they were very informative with great interviews and plenty of great race clips and rare footage. |

Thanks for the clues, Joe.
The title gives me something to start searching for. The internet is a big, big place. Given that through it I have got hold of a specific Formula 1 broadcast, with a specific commentary, from 21 years ago, through the net this month, I think I might have a fighting chance of catching that box set. Thanks. Any more clues, people? Especially on the point of distributors and dealers? |

Tim, before you order anything let me do some more checking. I think that there might be a few more videos produced by ESPN that could be just as good and cost less. The box set I mentioned above sold out at amazon.com, that is why it isn't currently available.
