Ganassi starting IRL team with Jeff Ward

ESPN is reporting that Chip Ganassi has begun the application process to start a full time IRL team that would feature Jeff Ward as the driver.

Jeff Ward is probably the best IRL driver who hasn't won a race. He also is one of the guys who took to the speedway like a duck to water. But since Ganassi has ties with Memo gidley and likes the guy, why wasn't he considered as well?

well maybe it will be a two car team.
Jeff Ward is a very good driver and so is Memo.
I would like to see both of them running for Chip.

hopefully something can be pulled together.

Wardie is known for his testing abilities and with Chip being the lead toyota team in 2003, they are going to want a good tester on board. Wardie will surely get plenty of miles.

If this is the scenerio, Chip is going to come out swinging in 2003 with a funded, developed, polished team, chassis, engine and driver combination. This will be something to keep an eye on. If they do get Memo on board and target stays, they may actually get me back in one of their stores.

Good for Ward. I have like this guy since he raced bikes back in the 80s.

Good for Wardie. He has worked hard and deserves a good opportunity. He has been competitive right from his first 500 and with Chip's resources, he is sure fire to get at least one win this year.

And good for the IRL that it's home-grown talent lands one of the big rides.
