ff1600-Manchester
If as muted in todays M-news there is to be a Champ Car race in Manchester, then the NW series needs to be a support race. "If it comes off"!!!
We also need to find out who's behind the idea. |

I trust the organisers will think carefully about where to put the pits as in some of the inner city areas, when the cars drove into the pits that would be the last time they were ever seen - until the engine parts turned up in some souped up Nova's...LOL

Lifted from the Autosport website:
Manchester's five-year Champ Car project Manchester City Council has opened negotiations with OWRS, the US promoter of the Champ Car World Series, to stage five races (2005-09) on a 2-mile street circuit on private land in the British city. Motorsport News claims today that a meeting has already taken place (at Long Beach two weeks ago) and that work could start on the project next month if MCC funding is approved. I think you could guarantee a mega entry for that with heats semis and a final

I hope it comes off. I went to the Champ Car race in OZ and they put on a good show with lots of support races.

The one at Brands was pretty good as well. Well, everything but the racing which was dull.............
Just think, tearing down the Mancunian way with snipers hanging out the windows of the flats. I can pretty much see where the course would run now. There are only a handful of roads wide enough to allow for it. Portland Street, Peter's Street, Deansgate or Trinity Way, Miller Street and Great Ancoats, followed by maybe Oldham Street back up to Piccadilly Gardens. Miller Street would be a great place for a start and a paddock complex opposite the CIS building. |

If the circuit isn't going to be on public roads, there are lots of places they could put up a temporary street course in Manchester. Opposite the council house, (sorry..meant to say City's new ground the Stadium of Manchester) is the velodrome and their is loads of waste land there.
Alternatively, there is loads of un-used land in Old Trafford near the Quays. To name but 2............. |

Perhaps "Manchester" was just a loose/generic term!
The Champ Cars last year were billed as being in LONDON when actually they were in Deepest Kent. So, working on that assumption, they could do 20 laps of lake Windermere! |

or should I say that Mr Blair has introduced a speed limit...
I am a member of a powerboating club on the lake and they have had to move races to Barrow docks. |
