BARC Single Seater Series
Ive just come back from Silverstone this weekend, where I took part in the first round of the BARC South East Region Single Seater series.
Not only was it great fun with wheel to wheel racing in both races, but the price of the days racing was only 100 pounds. That included a practice and two races (10 mins and 20 mins). So if any of you single seater drivers fancy some good fun and excellent value for money track time, why not join me and the others. Take a look at www.single-seater.co.uk for more info. Most single seaters are catered for including bike engined cars, so you dont have any excuses really do you? Hopefully see some of you there. Looks pretty good - shame the website is so out of date, advertising pre-season races!
This reverse grid sounds like trouble waiting to happen... |

Yep, the site does need updating. No doubt it wont be too long.
The reverse grid didnt happen (luckily as I would have started first in the second race....... scary! for someone who has only ever taken part in 3 races before) Not sure why it wasnt a reverse grid, but I agree, probably best if it wasnt. Will ask and find out more. There were 6 of us in total (up on the 3 in the last practice session), but more should be joining. Not many people have heard of it, so its a case of getting the word around. There were a few coming togethers and an engine blow up which was a shame, so in the last race only three of us finished. It was excellent fun though. I ended up having a real battle with a formula ford. We kept trading places lap after lap until I managed to get past on the second straight (stowe) and keep ahead to take second. I was in the blue jedi (no 47) with the fireblade engine. Dont think it is a beginners level. Everyone apart from myself and one other had been racing for over 10 years. I would definitely recommend to others. Its a really good series that a driver could be run in as well as something esle. Eg. Im doing mono and this series. I was quite pleased with myself as I qualified at 44.8 and managed a 41.2 by the end of the second race. Anticlockwise circuit was different and suprisingly easy to get to grips with. So if think you know anyone who would be interested, please let them know. Best Regards Jonathan |

I thought this would mainly be for the lesser experienced?
What is a good time at Stowe? |

No, not at all just for the inexperienced.
Out of the 6 drivers, 4 have been racing for many years in varying types of motor racing. Stowe wasnt as boring as I thought it would be. In fact I suppose it is quite challenging. The first and second corners take a while to get used to, and even after 60 odd laps, I still reckon there is a better way to get around them. Its pretty hard on the brakes and tyres. Very short circuit hence the quickest time of the day was snip over 39 secs. Why dont you guys come along to the next one? There is no joining fee, all you pay is 100 quid for the whole day. I dont know of a single seater series that is better value for money at the moment. Unfortunately I wont be at the next one, but will be at all the others On Sunday there was originally 9 signed up, but due to unrelated matters 6 turned up. So I reckon the next one should have a few more. |

Gary Catt did a 39.9 in the cars we used and Darren Manning did a 39.6, that was a while ago though...

The gent that did a snip over 39 secs was in a 2ltr formula vauxhall I think with slicks. Very quick. 37 sounds VERY quick indeed. What sort of car was it?
If I could get through the corners faster I could definitely be in the early to mid 40's as I had plenty of power down the straights with more to go. Im not sure what the sprint guys were doing, as there were a load of single seaters doing that on Sunday as well. |

45 is quick for the sprinters...
I think the quickest for the track are the bike engined cars as they put the power down so quickly Last edited by JR Ewing; 8 Apr 2003 at 15:26. |

I think the F1 cars have circled lower than 37 I have seen Fisi on Stowe before when he was first at Jordan. Quite quick...

Sorry, lap records can only be set in races and I fancy it'll be quite a while before the GP is on the Stowe track!

The sprinters did not get a single lap time as the run was timed over two laps from a standing start of course. I came 4th in class in FF1600 with a 91 sec run. Class winner managed an 89 sec. Fun though!

It was a good day, and I had a fair bit to do...we had a fair few spinners and one guy in the sprint who manged to skid halfway across the grass (at one point i though he was coming to join us in the marshaling point!)...just a shame about the weather...it was freezing!!!

I competed in that race meeting as well. thoroughly enjoyed my self, got 3rd in the first race and had second in the bag in the second, until that Canadian kid decided to use my reynard for target practice. If he is meant to be good, I hope Paston racing have plenty of spare chassis for him, as he hasn't quite got this racing ettiquette thing quite right yet. Perhaps he should stick to shooting brown bears, until he can learn to drive.
If an old git like me can beat him in a very old car, perhaps Paston's have signed up the wrong person!! To everyone, come out and play. BARC have got this one right. Jonathan is right, we are a good bunch of friendlt guys who are there for fun, not pot hunting!! There are other series for the driver who wants to play with the big boys! By the way, haven't seen you out there JR. All talk and no action??? Chris (FB1) |

Bob - I've got an 88 at present but it's in bits this year for a rebuild - will probably do some of these 'special' FF1600 races later in the year at Brands and Silverstone GP as well as some of the CFFC races on the continent.
Poison pen - I don't know what Reynard you drive but assume it's a two litre. Brandon Thomas has been out in an ancient 1300cc FVee. If he can get close enough to use you as 'target practice' I'd respectfully suggest he was kicking your *rse! |

I noticed that this formula is at Snetterton the same week-end as Renaults and Classic FF2000. We will have some of each there, will we be able to run in the single seater race for an extra ride while we are there?

As JR may know, as i carry about 6 stone more than him, his power/weight ratio will be much better! As for having my arse kicked by him, "pigs flying!" I'll quite happily beat him in equal cars any day of teh week!
