Superpole: Yay or Nay??
Personally I think it's a dreadful idea and will completely ruin television coverage of qually. There was nothing wrong with the old system whatsoever.
But what do you think?? Yay or nay??? |

What was so good about the 20 odd minute qualifying sessions we had this season?
I think this new system might have also secured the future of Sky F1 digital, as I doubt if ITV will cover Friday qualifying. Maybe that was the plan? |

No. I think it is a pretty stupid idea. There was nothing wrong with the qualifying format earlier. It was the races that had the problem.

Superpole or not, makes absolutely no diference, they had the chance to put F1 back as a most respected of all motorsports, but as usual big teams means big influence and they achieved bugger all. You fans that go and watch F1 must need your brains examined, i bet you think W.W.F wrestling is for real.the best thing you can do is borrow a pair of your grandparents glasses, set up your scalextrics set and pretend you are at a Grand Prix, it's about as realistic and you will be much closer to the action.Try going to your local racetrack for some of the smaller race meetings and what you save on Grand Prix entrance, food /travel and merchandise in a year or two you can buy your own F1 team.

i'll have to say yay, its worth a shot, if it doesnt work why not revert to the old way, there is no point in not trying something and leaving it as it was.

I voted yes.
It has worked for World Superbikes. Riders have to hook it all up for one lap. And it usually works out that the top guys still finish on top. |

It does create a spectacle and some Tension but personally I think that having four qualifying sessions and adding the best time from three of the sessions or all of the sessions might have created a more interesting grid particularly with the one engine rule in 2004.

I've always been against a superpole type qualifying, i like to see all the drivers given the possibility of equal track conditions etc, but i'm not going to vote until i've seen how it all shapes up in Australia.

the only thing that im not sure of it how they will treat it with the weather ... i can feel protest after protest....also the 107% rule too ? |

good point, what happens when it rains half way trough and the top five ends up outside 107%. Maybe it is not going to apply when they feel it has been on an unequal track. Protest protest protest....

i dont think the 107% rule would apply in qualifying as it is all or nothing, if you spin, they cant not let you race.
Remember Australia with Takuma Sato!? they still let him race when his car stopped and the weather came!? Tom. |

I suspect the 107% rule will be applied the same way it is now. If you fail to qualify, your out. Then you can appeal to the teams, who will agree for a start as long as you've consistantly been within 107% the rest of the weekend.
Sato and Yoong were both permitted to race despite qual over 107%, because they were generally with it the rest of the weekend. Yoong in San Marino however, struggled in every session. Oh and Yay |

Yay, it will add pressure to the drivers. We all argue about who is the best anyway so now we get to see them in action alone on the track. We will get to see the different styles of the drivers and who has the better chassis and so forth. I like the idea!

i cant see how the 107% rule can apply...even if they have a appeal for each driver , it just isnt as clear cut as it used to be .

Probably the 107% rule will be done on the practice times. I'm in favour of it, I'm sure there will be no ad breaks during the session, though probably more than before during the build up and 'analysis'

hey thats a good point.!....im sure that they will want to stick a ad break into it..look how ITV slap them bang in the middle of a race !.....
They will have to choose whose laps they are going to miss !. |

Maybe they will have TV breaks. Or there may be enough room between each driver to fit 2&2.
