I'll be there, but on foot.
Harry is almost ready, but I HAVE to test him first, and I have too much work and a holiday between now and the 21st to (a) go to Pro-Tyre and get some boots, and (b) arrange day to got testing. I know, excuses excuses, but I've been out far too many times with this contraption and have DNF'd because something broke/wasn't right in the first place. The days of the ol' Nova where I'd kick the tyres and say "that'll do, let's go racin' " are gone. |

Rob if its any use I know of a cheap (£50) test facility near us and you that you can at least run her up and down all morning and see how its running athough its not a race circuit and has no fixed corners as such, let me know if you want details. Its so local you could take a morning off from work and be done and dusted by midday.
BTW I hope to be there in the yellow Chevy but in the Post Historics, the rebuild is going really well after the Lydden crash and has all been repaired and painted and is genuinely looking better than it did as it was begining to look race weary (thanks Phil Waller of Bodymaster GB) and just fitting it up this weekend. Have an appointment with destiny next Saturday with the race car for something I will tell you all about when done but at the moment is a bit secret for reasons that will become apparent. If she survives that and and doesnt get attracted to the tyre barrier again I will be at Snet! Last edited by Al Weyman; 1 Aug 2010 at 09:52. |

Al, sorry to disappoint you, but the days of running the cars up the M1 between Sratchwood and Watford are over.........
I still want to get a proper circuit test on it, more for me than anything! |

The ECU is with Cosworth being checked out (TPS through a wobbly and stuck at around 65%). Pretty sure we have the rear main oil leak sorted. Turns out the clutch slip at Lydden was nothing to do with the leak (didn't think it was enough oil), the concentric bearing was too close to the clutch cover and I effectively was driving round with my foot on the clutch! Might even get time to get the wheels pointing the right way! |

Thats a shame Andy would have been good to see it at Snett.
Sounds like you are making forward progress Denis. |

I love standing starts for the overtaking chances, especially to get a head start on the 'clutch like a light switch' 700BHP mobile sideways chicane 'Men at Work' Monster But unfourtunately its more likely for accidents to happen with all the different cars standing starting characteristics in CT/BOSS particularly when we have big grids with us all together. Besides those nicked places are often given back a couple of laps in and as we all know its not all won on the 1st corner. So I favour the more boring, safer option as there are alot of unique hard to repair/replace cars out with us. Unless they could space us out more like they used to, not like 2 metres directly behind you malarky we had at Brands, Where did the staggerd grids go where you were looking at clean air in front of you till 2 rows up? Even if they ended up extending the grids right back behind the existing boxs, still be closer than last on a rolling start See how long it is from pole to the back if we have a rolling start at Snett, will be only just out of Russell . |

After witnessing the BH start, got to agree Rolling starts help prevent unwanted damage, hence bigger grids & better racing.

you start closer together on a rolling start and if you do have a crash your only traveling faster so hence much bigger crash

My experience at Lydden was I was much further from the competitors in front of me than I would have been in a standing start. That's because it was totally up to me how close I got to them.
Also, due to slipping clutch (and the rest!) I could position my car where I liked and make it easy for the guys behind me to get past. Like Joss, in my umpteen years of racing I have come to realise that races are won on the last lap not the first and if someone wants to be a hero on the start I would much rather be in a position to just let get them on with it rather than not have any option, as is the case from a standing start. It would also have saved me about £3K over the years in first gear and half shaft replacements! We have another go at it at Snetterton to make a more considered evaluation. Will interesting to see if people feel the same on a much bigger faster circuit. |

Ashely a whole lot of startline incidence including the time I rammed Colin Crump and twisted his shell with no damage to my car are caused by cars stalling on the line or not getting away cleanly, that wont happen with a roller, lets have them across the board I say. Take yesterday at Lydden I and another driver didnt hook up particularly well allowing a slower car to get the drop on us but alas it ended in tears and damaged cars a few laps down the line as one of the faster cars attempted to overtake the slower better starting car.

I was attacked by a knife wielding maniac there once, glad to say I was very fit rugby player back then and disarmed him and he paid the price big time.

Talking of maniacs - I'm not racing tomorrow at Snet, but I'll be there offering Mr Weyman moral support, and maybe even getting my hands dirty if need be!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to come over and chat Lee, up to my ears in broken axles, wobbly ECU's and chatting to prospective entrants!
Got some really good pictures with my new lense. And my driver of the day is Jason Davies in the Red NA Cosworth Escort Mk2. So it IS possible to go totally sideways AND fast round Coram. His last effort got a number of ohh, oh my god and unrepeatables, followed by a bunch of clapping and cheering when he DIDN'T crash! Excellent and spectacular driving and despite spending the two races inches from a gaggle of other cars, didn't touch any of them once. Jason, you are more than welcome back! And well done to Piers for finally getting his XR8 on the pace. Joss isn't going to be out front for much longer. Neil Philpotts can out qualify him, Piers can set a similar race distance pace and Keith can beat him of the tighter circuits and anywhere in the wet. |

Sorry to see you have problems Denis but looks like progress is being made.It is nice that there are a bunch of cars at the front with similar times the joys of no big power 4wd machines running

Just seen what stopped Neil, snapped the input shaft of a Hewland gearbox in two!!!!
Easily fixed, it was designed for a 1600 Toyota (mine) so can easily be beefed up. |
