Remember back to the mid 90's when there were so many last lap victories? OK, last year there wasy the US500, but really, they aren't happening at such as rapid rate as years gone.

Hey Liz, here are a few for you and Gil to remember:
Cleveland 1995
Portland a few years later in the 3 wide over the line finish.
What about Alex's move on Herta?
I'm certain there are many others, which are classics that stand out in your mind?

Al Unser jr Blowing his engine with less than a mile to go at Road America in 1996 and having Andretti storm into the lead.

In 1998 at Detroit on the white flag lap both Mauricio Gugelmin and Mark Blundell ran out of gas after holding the top two positions. Greg came up from third place and won the race, right after winning his first race the weekend before at Milwaukee.
To me, all of Greg's wins seem so memorable.

Mark Blundell beating My Gil by a gnat's eyelash - when Gil had already started celebrating! - I think in 1997. Not recently....

Helio and Mikey equally close over the finish line last year somewhere.

Mikey leading a race into the last lap, somewhere (Road America?) and sometime in 1998, and blowing a tire and careening into the wall.

Remember Greg Moore's battle with Zanardi in the closing laps of Rio in 1998. Greg, Alex, and a back marker going into one of the turns 3 wide with the backmarker in the centre, Greg high, Alex low. Greg comes down and takes them all, and Alex nearly stuffs it in the wall! What racing!

Then there was the battles between Greg Moore, Jimmy Vasser, and Alex Zanardi at the 1998 US500, and the 98 Marlboro 500. Greg got it in Michigan, and Jimmy got it in Fontana.

One of the races I remember was Long Beach in'97 I think. Zanardi and Tracy were fighting for the lead and managed to bang wheels and go off. Zanardi got his car free of the tires with little or no damage and fell into last. At the end of the race I think Herta and Andretti were racing each other to win and Zanardi blitzed them on the last few laps to win.

Also, Zanardi's win at long Beach in '98 when he finished with a bent front suspension. He had to hold the steering at almost 90 degrees to make the car go straight.

One of the highlights from a few years ago was watching Paul Tracy and Bobby Rahal going faster and faster around Nazareth in traffic, turning 20 sec laps, then 19 sec laps, then 18 sec laps. It looked lie they had 100 more horsepower than the rest of the field. The were lapping some of the backmarkers every three laps.

For me, its
1)Indy '89 and the Emmo/Al Jr. Tussle
2)Zanardi/Herta, Long Beach or Laguna Seca
3)Portland (Pick almost any year)

I pick Portland last year. For obvious reasons! The winner last year was uncommonly fast, smooth, and GORGEOUS!
