Rockingham 12 Dec.
Well it's a circuit, but they are having a rally there anybody from here going for a look or to help out.
They have got 9 mile stages planned out so should be good. Think they still need marshals, so you may even get to drive your own car on some or even all of the circuit, as most marshals will be able to park close to where they are working. They have a web site on www.rockinghamstages.co.uk Spectators are welcome as well. Dave. |

I'm going over to give it the once over, I've never marshalled on a Rally before, but I'm always ready to try anything. If it's half as good as Anglesey last wek, it'll be worth doing.

Is the John Buffham that is entered in a Plymouth Barracuda, the same one that drove
Audi Quattro's in the world rally championship a few years ago. |

Rockingham.
Well we went, and were we impressed, YES you better belive it. As we drove up the road towards it as it was getting light our first impressions was, WOW look at the size of the place.
We just couldn't belive once we were in, how clean and tidy the place is, and nothing out of place. Even the toilets were clean and had paper and soap even at the end of the day! The event, well what can we say, we done finish radio all day but could still see a lot of the action all around us. The night stages well that was something else. Don't get too many rallies with night stages so two weeks on the trot is a bonus. Well done to all those that got the job sorted, it was a good one, and it's in the diary for next year!! Dave. |

I've watched CART at Rockingham twice and you're right, it is truly a great stadium for motorsport. Facilities are excellent, its just a shame the whining drivers didn't like it and CART dumped it for Brands. No offense to Brands, but CART on an oval is way better a spectacle than the short cicuit at Brands...
..here's an idea - a one-off race of F1 cars at The Rock! |

Compared to some circuits where you drive in and think "is this it then?", the sheer size of Rockingham is quite impressive, and as mentioned in a thread on the trackside forum (i think), the facilities are really good.
As for the series on there, F1 won't use the oval (like they won't use Indy) because they don't think they can hack the speed, and the cars aren't rigid enough to withstand concrete wall -v- carbon fibre: Ask Ralf Schumi. Formula Superfund on the 1st weekend in August will be the only single-seater oval race at the Rock this year, and that's going to be quick enough (but rubbing stock cars or pick ups are just as much fun, and not that much slower ). Rockingham needs F3 and BTCC back though, just need the MSA to sort out how much of the oval they can use. Al. |

Don't know why they had both on a S V event, but the the idea is to check that stage is set up correctly.

Pete, think the idea was to let us see an Army driver screwing the the nuts off a 15+ year old Landrover, if nothing else it was entertaining, seen them in the forest but not on tarmac, think he was trying to get the tyres off the rims!!
Does make you think how far they would lean before they fall over. Dave. |

According to the support team of the Land Rover it was a brand new model called a
Wolf with a 2.5 Turbo engine and a top speed of 140 MPH!!!!! However old or new it was , wasn't it impressive. |

I did wonder after I done my reply, they had it out on the Tempest rally. We were talking to the man in charge of them, when we marshaled at Longmoor, and he said about it, and said that from the outside you can't see any diference to the old ones, he's right isn't he!!

For those of you that missed it, the event or the Landrover, have a look at www.sc-photography.co.uk Simon has at least one picture of the landy on 3 wheels, plus a lot of others from the event.
