Lotus 47s

Lotus developped 3 versions of 47-type, which were different from each other depending on the engine they were fitted with.
Was the power unit the only difference for each version?

As far as 47-D and 47-F are concerned, 1 and 5 cars were respectively built.
Who owned them firstly and after? When and where did they ran, with what result?

Used to own 47F .... road car ! X-Flow engine with Renault gearbox .... possibly ex Sunderland Racing, now back in the UK

Used to work on a 47 here in KC in the late 60's-early 70's that had the space frame and F2 suspension, Twin Cam powered w/Hewland gearbox. Imported through Dallas Lotus dealer(thanks Davhut) and painted like the American flag. Owned by a gentleman named James harris who I believe sold it to finance his purchase of a small airport in Texas. Body was lightweight fiberglass, short on headroom and a bit stiffling in the Midwest summers due to a lack of airflow through the cockpit. It was the full blown race version of the 47 but lacked those neat snorkles that some of the other race versions had. Have some pictures here somwhere and I believe that there are at least 2 other threads on these cars: one here in the archives and one on the chassis archive page.

They had 7 47 Fs during the second bunch of 47s with the first cars not earlier than fall 1967.
Some people would not possibly like publishing of the specific chassis numbers.
Fs are of course Rob Walker´s so called 52, she is 47 GT62F, better known as 47 GT20 (frame number) in the US. The car is now in Japan AFAIK. The other 47 F on the net is 47 GT76F.
Tony´s car might be 47 GT59F, delivered to J. Calvert in 1968.
The only car that went to the Midwest area is 47 GT60. A picture of that car would be a one off.
John Bolding, who restores the John Miles GLTL 47A GT/69, is working on a registry for the Historic Lotus Register, so please contact him if you have any information whatsoever.

I believe Chris Meek used to race a 47 in the early 80s. don't know what happened to the car or to Chris or his lovely (stunning)girlfriend who also raced.

That was a Lotus Europa Special production sports car (so close to the standard road car ) in the middle '70s. He and fashion model 'Valli' Stack, raced a pair of Europas she also raced MG midgets and a TR7 all under the banner of 'BIBA' the Kensington fashion store . Chris owns Mallory Park is still very active. No one has heard of Valli famous for that topless photo on the bank of the Mallory lake printed in 'Autosport' at the time, she was very slim and most attractive.

Many thanks Richard, I have not raced at Mallory since I was there with Special Saloons in the early 80s. I didn't realise Chris meek still owned it. I moved on to FF and never went there again, ironically my car did. When I sold it, it was used in the race school at Mallory for many years. An ex Jonathan palmer Royale RP26

I know one of the 47 models ran with a BRM engine, sorry cannot be more precise.

Hi,

the works cars from 1968 where C13-BRM hybrids according to Miles Wilkins. There where two further C13-BRM engines installed into 47s by the factory during 1968
One early car had her engine rebuilt with BRM parts.

When I bought my untouched?! BRM engine from 1971, it had a Ford crankshaft, Hepworth pistons, machined lotus camshafts and a Cosworth Red block under the polychomatic BRM Green! So what is a Cosworth-BRM after all? Wilkins speaks of superior gas flow of the BRM heads.
