I got one comment, I sure hope Matt wasn't given team orders to let Mark win...LOL. Especially since Mark is part owner of Matt's car. I could tell Matt wasn't pushing hard until there was about 5 or 6 laps to go. By then the lapped traffic was in the way & Matt kept getting squirrely coming out of turn 4 trying to make up the difference.

With a $Million at stake, I'd lay ya odds he was told to not try and take the win. And after Mark Martin (supposedly) told his crew he'd split it with them, Matt would be very unpopular in the garage if he did take it. Not to mention, with Martin being half owner, Matt's team stood to get part of them bucks too.

After a long dry spell, Mark Martin wins, how refreshing !!!
Matt appeared to be trying but his car was really wiggling. I would hate to think that a driver wasn't giving it 100%. I really believe Mark would have been hard to pass, he wanted it bad. I'll take what the drivers said as the truth. I respect them both and I think if Matt could have, he would have passed Mark. JMO for what's that's worth. |

It looked to me like Matt could have passed Mark at one time then Mark caught lapped traffic just right, put some distance between himself and Matt--then it was too late.

Of course, in defense of Matt...he is a clean driver. He has taken guys out of races but purely on accident. He was extra special careful not to take out his teammate & partial car owner in the 600. I have seen him beating & banging with drivers from other teams, but usually not with the Roush boys. Except for the Winston when him & Mark got tangled coming into the pits...*G*. Best thing for Matt & he said it himself in the post race interview...at least Mark won't be so grumpy now...lol.

good to see mark get a race win again - is matt a genuine championship threat .... look at that bloke sneaking around in about 4th place in points, no race wins in 2002 yet - when will the flood gates open?

I don't know, but when they do... Championship #5! It may or may not happen this year, but it will happen. Count on it. At 30 years old, Jeff Gordon has many many years of racing ahead of him. Remember when Richard Petty became the first $1,000,000.00 driver? I'll lay ya odds Jeff Gordon will be the first $100,000,000.00 driver. He's already won almost $50,000,000.00, and will probably top that mark by season's end.
