Best BTCC race EVER...

Hello again,

One question... Whats been the best ever BTCC race to date? My fave would have to be Snetterton 1990 when Gravitt, Harvey Bristow and Co. had a huge battle, but they all kept spinning, all coming back to the front for a stunning final few laps. PHEW!!!

Gravitt really did pull off some stunning moves that season. I remember at Brands when he passed Rouse, nearly driving into the pitlane on the first cdorner...

Oh the good old days of the Cosworth!!!

Final round, 1992- We all know that story, but definetly the most dramatic race i've ever seen.

Snett 1994- Big battle between Kieth O'Dor, Giampiero Simoni, Paul Radisich, and Eugene O'Brien.

Snett 1996- Great, great race. First, the infamous Roberto Ravaglia was leading, then Jo Winkelhock tried to pass him twice, and failed by spinning off. Then, Ravaglia, Rydell, and Menu clashed into each other with Ravaglia and Rydell out of the race. Menu's engine went off, and James Thompson took the lead.

Final round, Silverstone, 1998- Anthony Ried was in second place and going after Rydell for the championship, until James Thompson passed him, then Reid was seeing the red mist and rammed Thompson off. Tons of passing and panel bashing between Alain Menu and Peter Kox, along with tons of other passing. Rydell won the championship that year as we all know.

Snett '96 was brilliant - especially with Muarry's commentary!

Snetterton 96 was great.

Brands Hatch 1988, the battle between Rouse and Soper in the Sierra's, wonderful racing.

oh, and any race in which Frank Sytner and a Mobil Prodrive BMW M3 was nearby.

The best I ever saw was Crystal Palace 1971 - Brian Muir in the Wiggins Teape Camaro and John Fitzpatrick in the Broadspeed Escort.

Snett 96 was just a bit special as was the 92 final race at Silverstone. The 93 TOCA Shootout was also excellent just because of the atmosphere from the huge crowd. Oh, and anything that featured Gordon Spice, Andy Rouse, Stuart Graham in Capris and Steve Soper, Rex Greenslade or Jeff Allam in Rovers. Or any of the old ETCC races with Volvos, Rovers and BMWs. Mega.

How bad it looks now, eh?

Give me a Group A Touring Car race over any Touring Car category.

Soper's drive in the 1983 TT at Silverstone in the wet was just superb, especially his controlled slides through Stowe

PB I think you're thinking of Roberto Ravaglia (the g is silent, like how you pronounce the name fo the singer Natalie Imbruglia). My favourite would be the wet one at Donnington I think in 1998, when Nigel amnsell was racing. Went to the back on lap 1 then fought his way through. He was 6th when the safety car came out, and then the next 3 laps which culminated in Reid spinning off were fantastic. But Frank Sydner and James Weaver's battles looked fantastic from the Murray's Motorsport Spectacular video, makes Muller and Plato look like Schumacher and Barrichello.

The 2nd race at Brands Hatch this year has to be a strong contender for recent times.
