Where have the most important RX cars gone to?
To my eternal shame I have to admit, that I’ve never kept proper records on the whereabouts of some of the most important RX cars. Therefore, I wonder if the community of 10 Tenths is able to fill gaps. At least those, that are straight connected with our sport. Does mean that the cars are not that important anymore, after they have left the RX scene. To set an example:
Martin Schanche Ford Escort Mk3 4x4 (Xtrac) > John Smith > Barry Squibb > Mike Endean Martin Schanche Ford Escort RS2000 T16 4x4 (the 1st of 2) > Ludvig Hunsbedt Martin Schanche Opel Astra T16 4x4 > Glenn Amund Voie > Harald Sachweh Franz Wurz Lancia Stratos HF 3.0 > Andy Bentza (still in Bentza’s possession) Franz Wurz Audi quattro (ex-Mikkola car) > Dimi Mavropoulos Seppo Niittymäki Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4x4 > Jarmo Lähteenmäki Seppo Niittymäki Ford Escort Mk3 4x4 (Xtrac) > Ragnar Forsberg > Vidar Sauthon Seppo Niittymäki Peugeot 205 T16 E2 (ex-Salonen car) > Terje Schie Martti Kangas Porsche 911 Carrera and later 911 SC > Matti Alamäki > Jukka Pelttari Matti Alamäki Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4x4 > Mauno Jokinen Matti Alamäki Lancia Delta S4 > Jarmo Lähteenmäki Matti Alamäki Peugeot 205 T16 E2 (ex-Pikes Peak test car) > rallysprint accident in 1990 at Pori > owned by Juha Kankkunen now? Andy Bentza Lancia Stratos HF 2.4 > Reneé Vontsina Andy Bentza Audi 80 quattro > Reneé Vontsina Andy Bentza Audi quattro > Terje Sauthon If you are not certain about the next and/or last owner simply put a question mark behind the name. And now: LET IT ROLL! |

Sure I read somewhere Lestander did have it very briefly but had to sell all his assets when his company went bust.

I have seen a black RS200 on YouTube being used in hillclimb and you can just tell by the sound of teh exhaust it is an ex Schanche car.
Sven definately had an Xtrac he used it at Inter Nations in 1990, it was red. Morstads car never looked like a proper Xtrac on the video, I always though iut might have been Wahlunds shell, plsu the engine sounded really flat and weird, the Zakkers were really screamy and had tons of gearbox whine! Think Gollops BiTurb may have been sold to someone new aswell, saw some Youtube of that recently. Eitehr that or refettled. Jernberg definately bought the Xtrac for the transmission, just as Tommy K bought the OPel from John W, though I bet John has a ton of bits laying around at home!!! |

IIRC one of the two Schanche RS200s was sold in Norway to a guy who used it for sprints, racing and/or hillclimbs.
Learned from Tim W. that the ex-Niittymäki/ex-Sauthon Xtrac went from Lestander to Jernberg through the hands of a liquidator… Remember that I saw one Xtrac Opel shell (or just parts of it?) in the workshops of Tommy Kristoffersson myself while beeing together with Bernd Leinemann at Arvika in connection with the 1995 Swedish Rally. |

What was the chassis number of Delta S4 of Alamäki?
Here's #226, restored by Mäkelä Auto Tuning. http://www.mat.fi/forsale_lancia_delta_s4.htm |

Wasn't there some rumors about the Alamaki 205 being restored to former Rally looks for a Museum in France? Would be a shame as the car had 3 wins in a row in Rallycross... So keep it red with the white roof! |

Matti Alamäki got his Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 E2 from PTS in late 1987 or early 1988 with the help of his friend Juha Kankkunen. After Matti had won the 1990 Norwegian ERC round, and therewith the 1990 ERC already two rounds prior to its end, he took part in a Rallysprint at his home town of Pori. I was told that he smashed his 205 E2 at high speed against a tree there and the following competitor torpedoed the Alamäki car as well. I heard in the autumn of 1990 that Matti and his mechanic Jokke Hannula were planning to rebuild the very badly damaged car over the winter 1990/1991. However, not much happened then and I later understood it was due to lack of the necessary money. IIRC someone told me a couple of years ago that Juha Kankkunen eventually got the car from Matti and it was converted back to factory Rally trim. It seems that Kankkunen really has a 205 E2 in possession but I still wonder if that is Matti’s ERC hattrick winning car. AFAIK the car was originally a test car for Pikes Peak, but don’t know if it also had a previous Rallying history, that would make it even more precious.

I like the guy standing next to the camera man.
I reckon he says 'f##k me - thats quick'. Think it was the 'east coast racing engines' version that made that unique exhaust note. |

I thought Martin built his own engines to be honest, Seem to rremember he persevered with the 2.1 for a while and then even went to a 2.3 which was to much before settliing on a 2 litre unit in teh gold roof car.
His exhausts sounded like that in 88 right through to the end and noone elses RS's sounded the same, to be fair they all sounded a bit different!! Pats Q8 car sounded really rattly and cammy yet Pekkas was quite smooth and clean, all down to cams and level of tune I guess. Was the same with Metros. They all sounded different in a way. |

Chunder, John Minty did all of schanche's zakspeed engines and most of the BDT's in the RS200. I thought that East Coast did the later RS200 engines (gold roof) when schanche used to use either the big (2.3) or small (1.7) engine (different weight limits), depending on the track.
I thought it was only the East Coast engines that sounded 'rough'. When he used the YB in the escort he tried loads of engine builders and i thought that it was then that he started building engines himself. |
