such a shame to loose a bright, up and coming driver like that. his performances in Formula Ford and Formula Holden were increddible to watch. my condolences to his family and friends. such a tregedy that Australian motorsport could have done without. |

Another loss in motorsport, but goes to reinforce the nature of the sport and if I were going to go, going doing something I loved would be the way. He'll surely be missed and the sport will never be the same.
Coldolences go to his family, crew & friends, and respect to those volunteering their time to allow drivers and fans to do what they love at the circuit today as it's hard on them too. |

Very sad news.
Has a reason been given for what caused the accident? |

news.com.au is reporting that he was in slicks and was unable to brake in the grass. Unsure what made him get onto the grass though.

yeah that appears to have what happened.
it was at the hairpin after the very fast left handers leading to it , somehow he got onto the grass and was unable to stop the car on slicks and there is a earth embankment at the end of it which he sadly collided with. this is what i could make out on the news last night anyway but im sure an investigation is underway as to what went wrong. still a tragedy and im still shocked by it and cant help but feel we have lost a future touring car star as well as a great young man. |

Oh dear, that is horrific news
Goes to show motor racing will never be 100% safe even in these times. What a shame to lose such a young talented driver. |

Was it an earth embankment, or one of those neck snapping tyre filled earth walls? Why are those still legal on a Nationally Licenced Venue?
Greg Hansford and now Stewart McColl - RIP in Racers Paradise. |

a bit of both actually from what I saw.
there were tyres there which were filled with dirt and there was an earth embankment behind them |

I was at Phillip Island when the accident happened. i did not see it. But please for respect of Stuie, do not speculate how the accident happened, there is a full investigation happening as we speak and a report will be issued in due time.

I've got to agree with HarvestMotorspt. We shouldn't speculate on how the accident happened. I'm sure the officials will announce relevant info in due course. In the meantime, our thoughts should be with Stewart's family & friends.

The weekend just got worse;
