Goodwood Revival

Has anyone else received a letter from the Revival organisers saying that their services are not required for this meeting????

Presumably they have more volunteers than they need marshals...

Goodwood Revival

The thing is this is the second time in as many seasons that i have received this letter.
How are we supposed to keep marshals if this is going to happen.

Personally my enthusiasm for the sport has been severly dented!!!!!

Whay club(s) do you belong to, and which club did you apply through?

It might have a bearing on this.

Never been turned down yet..
When i first started with BARC Goodwood was my very first meeting in 1998.
Not attending this year did FOS The Revival i think has gone down hill in Atmosphere.

Gone down hill? Explain do. In my eyes & many others this is the most anticipated event of the year! And attracts more visitors than any other motor racing event And has no tickets available on the gates as sales are so high.
Just which clubs do you belong to, sir!

Apologies I know that it is rude to reply to one's own posting however a thought just occured to me. I have nothing whatsoever to do with the Marshals allocation for this meeting but maybe one of the crtiteria for selection when they are over subscribed is firstly to consider all those who are club members, in this case the BARC and secondly to take note of those who can attend all three days, I guess this may have some bearing. Also another thought big meetings don't suffer from lack of marshals as some smaller ones, are too many marshals just doing the big meetings, i.e. TOCA F3 GT's etc and not always supporting the small clubby at Cadwell? - Balders

We will have to beg to differ on that one, atmosphere last year was excellent, one can only hope that this year will be as good. Balders

I think he is referring to the atmosphere at the FOS and not the Revival meeting?

It is my understanding that there were just too many marshals and not everyone could be accommodated. It must be a thankless task to have to choose who to ask and who not and so I would ask that you bear with BARC if you have unfortunately not been chosen to attend. I dare say being a BARC member and being able to attend all three days may have had some bearing in the decision.

myself and my wife recieved our letter this friday gone, but in all fairness we are still in our first full year of marshalling. that said have attended 14days this year already. Shame as i can see goodwood from home was looking forward to a weekender with a bed in the middle not a tent, Next year perhaps. Anyone know of any other meets that weekend that might be needing marshals?

They urgently need marshals for Rockingham on 4th and 5th September. As although it is an Ascar event they are also running Formula BMW on the full circuit.

When a meeting is oversubscribed (which I think only Goodwood FOS and Revival are these days) it must be very difficult to choose marshals. As stated previously I think one of the main criteria is that you can do all 3 days.

I'm still with the guys who see the revial as one of the years highlights. Nothing will ever be as magical as the first year, but still one of the best meetings of the year. Can't wait.

Hi First time at Goodwood for about 50 years. Looking forward to the return as a marshal. I will be camping and apart from the information sent out about dress code, is there any dress advice for marshals that may not be selected for white overall duty. Also is there any time to wander round the paddock if you are on the bank? .
Apart from the usual marshals social sessions on the camp site in the evenings are there any other attractions open? Any help would be appreciated.

There two posts either side of the startline for white overalls otherwise normal marshalling garb is ok, i.e. orange overalls if you are running about, or if you are flagging/obs then jacket/tie/hat etc is good. re wandering around the paddock, unless you work something out with your Obs then you will have do this during natural breaks, i.e. before/after racing or during lunch breaks, don't forget there is a dress code here as well. Attractions well there is a lot to see around the start finish area, static car displays, memorbillia stannds, book stand etc + excellent food and drink stalls and don't forget the wonderful flying displays. If you are interested in historic motor racing, flying displays, good food/drink and pretty girls it is hard not to believe that you have died and gone to heaven, Goodwood should happen every day!! - Balders

Re final instructions from the BARC 'For paddocks, startline, parc ferme and assembly overalls will be collected from Christine Reddington's white hut in the paddock. They will be distributed each day for people who may not do all three days, Should anyone not do Sunday, then please return them to race control on the day you finish. - Baalders

Yes but only of the thick paper variety. No slightly foxed leather ones , unfortunately , like AMOC & JDC used to issue! Perhaps Lord March could invest in these to enhance further our authenticity.
