Old type VW Beetle, are they still made?
We just saw a 53 plate VW Beetle, original shaped one and upon checking if it was a genuine 53 or someone had changed a number, reg is HA 53 BUG, I thought it could've been altered from H 453 to make it look newer but it seems it is indeed a 2003 car. Funny thing is that there is no emissions figures for it on the DVLA site and tax is £230 which is the figure for pre 51 plate cars.
So are these still made in Mexico, I thought they'd stopped production a long long time ago, certainly before 2003? |

According to Wikipedia, they stopped in 2003:
" the final original Type 1 VW Beetle (No. 21,529,464) rolled off the production line at Puebla, Mexico, on 30 July 2003" |

It'll be one of the last ones then, now why didn't I think of Wiki in the first place?
Thanks for that anyway. |

Was the 53 plate one you saw Tim RHD ? There are two 'V' reg original Beetles driving around near us here that are both RHD... so either they had expensive conversions... or they were making RHD models in Mexico to the end.
Speaking of old/new VWs... I wonder where these people are getting the base vehicles for this. |
