Last Test Day for 2007 @ Mallory
Thought I'd gone to the wrong circuit this morning, as I drove down the hill it looked like Monty Pythons Lumberjacks had been at work. The Oak tree is no more, nor to the point is Post 9 at the moment, as after 2 days of work the tree had completely demolished the structure.
I soon cheered up though as I headed for Race Control, as the very 1st car I saw was a silver Aston Martin Vantage, road registered but very stripped out for racing, other cars to imeadiately catch the eye were a Cooper Monaco and a Toleman liveried March F2. The morning was run as an open session with around 20 cars taking to the track at their leisure. Most noticable were the Ginetta Juniors with 6 different cars being joined by a 2 year F3 Mygale which was by far and the way the fasted thing out there, a Caterham, a 1950's Singer, a Cooper Bristol, a BMW325I and assorted Formula Fords. All very civilised and no major incidents. As the sun came up for the bike session in the afternoon, notable riders were Neil Mckenzie's son and a very young lad called Gino on a European Superstock 600 bike who was absolutely flat out all round the circuit, a real pleasure to watch. The 2 sidecars had their own 10 minute sessions but were quite tame in comparison. Other news from the circuit - the Stock Car Raceday in May has been brought forward a week to May 11th (clashes with everything!) and the Tour Britannia visits Mallory & Silverstone on September 3rd. All in all a great way to wrap up Test days for the year, now just waiting for Boxing Day - see you there. |

So, are the nominations open for a new name for the post formerly known as 'Oak Tree'?

Maybe Dave (FC) could DSO at post 9 as a functional replacement for the big old oak.
For our March meeting I think we will call it "the post previously known as the oak tree" |

how many rings would we find if we cut you in half dave?
are they gonna plant a new oak - and I think it should be called stumpy! All a bit irrelevant I think as when I race at Mallory next I wont be using that bit of track. |

How about calling it Ollies or something similar as a tribute to Mr Bridewell?

NO,
The Stock Car date has changed, it's now the week before (11th). The 18th is a BARC meeting. |

WHAT?? - the Oak Tree has gone??????
It never looked to be in any bad enough condition to be felled - presume it done for safety. Just looking at photos from 1970's in a book got for Xmas - looked no different then from now. Won't spoil Mallory for me per se, but will spoil something about the ambience. What excuse now for losing my blue flag in the branches? |
