Renault Alpine A110
If one of these cars, say a 1967 model, were to start racing again what series would be most suited for it do you think?
Calm down it's just a hypothectical wishful thinking kinda question...though I do know where one is just sitting going to waste on display in a Renault garage near me Last edited by PaulSands; 17 Nov 2003 at 15:59. |

the european endurance gt series seem to have a later cut off than UK (1965)
also the HSCC sportscar series - they were seriously pretty cars |

not BRDC but HSCC - I think that the 67 model would be eligible
Cloth Cap should be okay but I think you will struggle to get it into Carol Spagg's Gentlemen Drivers |

Yes, there was a guy called Thomasson drove one - 1986-89 when I saw it, believe it was supposed to have been the car rallied privately in the early 70s in the UK, by a guy who's name I've forgotten...

The name that first springs to my mind as having rallied A110s in the UK during the 70's is John Price- maybe one of his former cars? |

I'd have to consult my RAC programmes, registration was FYY 48H, or something similar. Did a lot of British events in 1972. I'm not sure it was Price, but could have been.

Call me a pedant, but the A110 is not a Renault, it's an ALPINE!!

OK, a small diamond, but on the chassis plate it says 'Societe des Automobiles Alpine'. I don't see any mention of the 'R' word there...

In the days of the birth of the A110, it was an Alpine-Renault,in 75-76 the racing A441-442 were quoted Renault-Alpine, in 78 the Lm Winning car was merely a Renault (Alpine in little). By the time they came in Formula one, the cars were Renault. Alpine was used alone also at the end of the brand in the 90's. Some good french historians might clear that point.

It was 1974 when Alpine finally gave up the battle to remain solvent and became wholly owned by Renault. The Renault name was never going to appeal to potential buyers of high performance cars and instead of exploiting the glorious competition history of Alpine they let it all drift away until they betrayed their heritage by abandoning the Alpine marque, an act for which they cannot be forgiven.
