The STIG should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
BMW's Transmission

Okay, observation from someone who doesn't watch WTCC often [no Eurosport]. Why is it, that with the exception of Zanardi the BMWs have a 5 speed H pattern gearbox, when everyone else has a 6 speed sequential.

In fact, why do they have a 5 speed box at all - all the BMW 3 series I can find on the BMW website have 6 speed boxes

Could this be a factor to their poor performance vs Seat in Curbita?

S2000 regs allow either a 5-speed H-pattern or 6-speed sequential, with a 30kg penalty for running the sequential. 6-speed H-pattern isn't an option.

BMW have always used an H-pattern although a few STCC and BTCC teams have preferred a locally 6-speed sequential.

Zanardi has only just switched to the sequential this year - he already uses throttle and brake hand controls and felt that the sequential would be quicker and easier to use.

The BTCC I believe has just reduced the handicap to 10Kgs for running a 6 speed seq for rear drive cars.
