Just wondering how Will has been going in Formula Renault this season. He did a great job winning last years Australian Formula Ford Championship and it was great to see him get to Europe this year. We haven't seen much of his results this year in magazines over here, unfortunatly his results have been overshadowed by the likes of Webber & Courtney. Has he been competitive, many podiums? Also how did Lewis? Hamilton go this year, his first year racing cars i believe.

Will did OK. He managed 2 third places, which isn't too spectacular, I grant you, but then again his Motaworld team only managed 3 third places between all 4 drivers in the whole year, so that might put it into some sort of perspective. He was pretty consistent too, always in and around the top 7 or 8, as reflected by his finishing position. My own personal opinion is that he could usefully spend another year in FRenault to get himself right on the pace, but we'll see what happens. He's only 20, so he's got a bit of time yet.

Hamilton started ok, and was quick on the power circuits from the start. In the latter half of the season, after a couple of strong European rounds, he was very strong, and was right on the pace pretty well everywhere. Having won 3 races, he is ready for F3.

P.S. The Championship results above are not up to date, I suspect ... they don't take account of the last 2 races at Donington. Not certain how they affect the standings, except Alex Lloyd's disastrous weekend will have dropped him down to 9th :-(

Will got on extremely well, I thought, and has impressed many people. Extremely polite out of the car, but in it a hard, no-nonsense racer who has shown it is possible to overtake in slicks and wings.

To say he was straight out of FFords (Kent-engined, I believe or 1600cc in old change) and had never seen the UK circuits except for Brands, he did superbly to challenge and beat his more experienced team-mates, including the winter champion, Rob Bell, no mean racer himself.

Will is a definite title contender in 2003.

Well, Jonny Apex is right. Yep, I must have spent ages on the phone to Will this year and Motorsport News gave him a good run this year considering his strong results. To finish fourth in the championship against guys who have been racing these cars and tracks for a while is a great achievement. Add in the whole living away from home element and it's a big task.
Jonny, you're right - I was at Silverstone - had a great time.
I'd be interested to know how you knew I was there ...
Where you one of the million people I was introduced to during my time in the UK?

I reckon Will did a great job to race in series he has never been in before on tracks he has hardly ever raced on and in a team with more experienced drivers and to get a few podiums is great effort and I hope the future looks bright for another Aussie.
