He mentioned that his son Marco will probably drive in the Star Mazda series next year and that both the IRL and CCWS are going their seperate ways for now. Michael also said that he was very excited about the IRL going street/road racing next year. That's about it.

I think Marco did a few races this year in Star Mazda as well, not sure though.

Pardon me, but what is with the whole segregation thing? Is there a line on this bus no one is allowed to cross?

I am sorry if my thought may be in somewhat strong terms but we all know that Michael is in IRL now and of course would normally be discussed on the "other" board.

But really, this guy is still your all-time CC leader in laps led, poles (I think) and wins by more than double the next active driver still in CC (or anywhere) which would be PT. What he has to say would be of intense interest to both OWRS fans and IRL fans and, love him or don't he provides insight to both Series. He was one of the all-time if not THE all-time great CC driver and now is an owner in IRL - if I dare type those letters out loud here.

I apologize for the rant but geez, this is getting silly: you can talk about the LBGP here, but not Toyota, nevermind they sponsor the LBGP. Michael as a team owner can discuss the IRL, the health and direction of which has a direct bearing on OWRS, but this has to be "moved" to the "other" forum.

Bottom line here gang is there aren't enough open wheel fans COMBINED anymore to keep a healthy discussion going - period. Here we are slicing and dicing the remaining fans. Just for fun we should have a CART forum to discuss CART only, an "Original Vision" Forum to discuss what IRL started out as, and then an OWRS forum to discuss the Series Formerly Known as CART.

There is just too much historical overlap between the two series to keep this charade going - and here we go again with (I bet) the same thread in both fora - I haven't been in the "other" forum yet but no doubt this is being discussed there too!

Sorry for the rant, but geez, we just keep picking and picking and picking...could we talk about the races and the personalities without having to segeregate our thoughts somehow in a very specific, and very narrow channel based on what forum somoething seems like it should be in?

It should be in both forums because I was the one who posted them. That being said, what's with the rant? If you want you can send me a PM.

John, learn to live with it.

"Why the segragation thing?"

There are distinct and separate forums for many a good reason, not the least of which is the fact that there are distinct and separate formulae.

I've just typed in a quite lenghty counter-rant, but discretion is the better part of valour, and I've deleted the whole lot of it. Suffice to say, if it doesn't pertain to CC, it doesn't belong on this board. And that's the way it is.

macdaddy:

I think the fact that I have been around this long demonstrates that I have learned "to live with it."

I had not realized that by doing so, I had also waived the privlege to comment on my own frustration at least with having to carry on a similar conversation in two separate places.

Well said JohnSSC..."living with it" does not necessarily have to equate to "agreeing with it."

IMO there's always going to be overlap between the forums of 10/10s. Just like when we talk about F1, F3000, Atlantic, or Star Mazda drivers in CC or vise versa.

There's no question that Michael is an important part of CC's past and has some bearing on it's future. He was one of the best drivers, although I'd argue not THE best. The guy has some personality problems, but as is obvious so do active drivers like PT and Junky.

I watched the interview. With the possible exception of Marco and Star Mazda, it had absolutely nothing to do with ChampCars. Past, present, or future. Therefore, I see no reason why it's being discussed in two places in the first place.

Crossover between the forums is inevitable, I'll never argue with that. But the forums were originally split in two for very good reasons, I'm sure some senior members will attest to that. Marcus and I agreed long ago, and made HotTopic mention of it, that the IRL is to be discussed on this board when, and only when, it has a direct relevance to this series.

This interview did not.
