ACO/FIA WEC 1000 Miles (or 8 Hours) of Sebring
I've elected to do the WEC race thread just to make sure it's up in time for official sessions to start. Anyone else who wants to can do the IMSA 12 Hours of Sebring thread.
As we all know, the ACO elected to run to 1000 miles distance, or 8 hours timed, which ever comes first, for this event. The ACO also had a promoters' test session last weekend, where LMP1 entries from Toyota, along with entries from Rebellion Racing and BR Engineering/SMP Racing unofficially shattered the official track record that Audi Sport set in 2013 during qualifying for that year's 12 Hours of Sebring. Storylines for the 1000 Miles of Sebring: Can TGR/TMG join Audi and Peugeot and make it in America as far as winning in LMP1, as well as emulating Dan Gurney's All American Racers in getting Toyota power to victory lane at Sebring? Does any of the LMP1 privateers, who were close to matching Toyota's times in test, have a word or two to say about that? How will LMP1 stack up compared to IMSA's DPI class, since IMSA and the WEC will be sharing the track at Sebring this weekend? How will LMP2 and the GT classes compare and contrast to their IMSA equivalents this weekend? Will Sebring be kind to the competitors over the 1000 miles, or will the Concrete Maiden try and get her fix? Race resources, such as entry list, time table, track map and links to articles and press pieces can be accessed here (I have to give the ACO and FIA props here. I'm usually like their harshest critic, but I like how this site is laid out): https://www.fiawec.com/en/race/show/4600 Alternate Timing and Scoring Official Schedule Last edited by joeb; 13 Mar 2019 at 19:36. |

Thanks for the thread!
Project 1's replacement Porsche has been delivered to the track (by DHL). |

I'm expecting lap records to tumble. Toyota's testing times had a best of a 1:41.151 on day 2, but that was on an 11 lap stint. So I wouldn't be surprised to see them go even faster come qualifying. Hopefully the privateers are closer. During the test the SMP was the next fastest with a 1:42.325 on day 2. Interested in seeing how low lmp2 goes vs DPi as well. Should be a good comparison.

Just use this, it's better anyway as it has sector times etc. http://theracingline.net/timing/

The sector times so far mirror what happened during the test at the weekend: the Toyotas are a couple of tenths quicker in Sectors 1 and 3 but a full second in Sector 2 where they can do two big dumps of electric power. out of the hairpin and Tower.

Drapeau rouge. Possibly for the Larbre Ligier.
Edit: Back to green. |

What do you think of the schedule of the race starting at 4 pm? The majority of the race is going to be in the dark which is not TV friendly at all. I know there are night racing lovers out there, but I don't like looking at a TV screen with headlights glaring the whole time. Wish it started earlier.

And I don't understand this complaint that the cars are unidentifiable. With intelligent camera positioning (i.e. not looking straight at the headlights), the cars are relatively easy to tell apart. |

The LMP1s are 40 km/h faster than the GTEs down the Ullman Straight! That's a Le Mans-esque diffenence but on a straight barely a kilometre long.

With the clocks forward this time of year it should get dark around 7-7:30, that's still a few hours of daytime racing.

Toyota tops FP1 and FP2. Followed by Rebellion in FP1 and SMP in FP2. Good to see competition behind Toyota.

Toyota handing the bumps better? Well, let's see--factory developed car, I'm pretty sure that Toyota uses the Cambridge inerter/J-Damper (LMP1 privateers might have them but I don't know), and FRIC (which the privateers don't have).

I was wondering how different the track conditions are now vs qualifying time in the dark. Currently it is sunny with the air temp of 28.3 and track is 37.8. I expect the track to cool a bit for qualifying.
