Mark Webber - 144 laps!
Franck Montagny 130. I love this part of the year - things are hotting up, cars are getting launched. Love it. |

Ok, this surprises me a lot. None of the posts except RF even mentioned JB's pace! What tha? Hey its only testing but when the Williams was setting records people were saying that its fast. BAR are not known for setting fast times in testing. I am very surprised at Buttons pace and how much faster he is than Sato! Yes, its just testing, whatever but its some indication.

Testing is testing and I'm the first one to poo-poo it and the first one to insult Honda/BAR F1, but Button beat the lap record by 4ths! Last years car wasn't behind it by 4ths. I think it's pretty safe to say that the raw performance of this year's car will be a big leap forward.

Finally, some perspective. Thank god that darn Williams has been beaten. Now the thing is 1 second off the pace overall.
Hopefully the media will make a big deal about this, claiming that the car was a big blunder. But seriously though, that BAR is looking nice. New tyres, so they havent had much time to get used to them. And with the old car too! |

Nice on Button. Even he is running underweight and did qualifying simulation.
Anyway, from Valencia's McLaren private testing, DC also broke his own record. http://www.gp2003.com/news/news.php?...46d5f1f436a511 |

Good on Button
And interesting to notice that nobody since now has underlined that MS, at his first little outing and still with the old car, has significantly outperformed the new and already well-tested Williams. This is particularly important if it's true what Italian media reported, i.e. for the WDC it was just a tyre testing session. Autosport reports of a piece of interview with Ralf, who says it's the best Williams he ever drove, but in an TV interview to italian RAI yesterday evening he admitted his disappointment for being outperformed by the old Ferrari. And, as far my reading, both Ralf and Juan did race simulation. If we had acces to lap times, not just fast time, we can talk more about this. |

Correction, only Juan did race simulation. Ralf working on mechanical set ups for the Walrus before switching to tyre evaluations in the afternoon.

When Michael got his 2003 pre-season campaign going about this time last year, he smashed the F2002 design Ferrari against the barriers on his first out-lap. He said in Spain yesterday: 'I was a bit nervous. 'But I have to say it really went well and to see all the guys again was beautiful,' the 35-year-old added after a day testing Bridgestone tyres. Ferrari's programme, also with full-time tester Luca Badoer on track, simultaneously focused on performance and reliability work relating to engines. Schumacher added: 'We are fully on schedule with the work we have planned. 'How nice it is to be back in the car. We really missed it. You could almost feel the motivation of the guys. Now we wait for the start of the season.' Says a guy on the verge of retirement |

Well, Alonco set the fastest time on the final day at Barcelona's testing last week.
But, one who more impresses was Nico Rosberg. He setting the sixth fastest time of the day, just 0.186s slower than Montoya. http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=25840&s=5 |

I agree with those who say that testing doesn't really tell you anything, because of differing fuel levels etc. However, I think that BAR's move to Michelin was a good one and, with JB getting better and better, they could be quite a surprise this year....if they stop blowing up!

I don't read to much into the jags times.M.Webber 144 laps suggests to me go out run at nearly max and see if you can break it.Work it 144 laps this year will cover the entire GP weekend with the new regs.To still be running 1.17 after that suggests that Coswoth have the engine sorted out.One thing at a time ladies and gents.
