McRae to drive for Skoda....

BBC sport is reporting that Colin McRae will drive for Skoda on the Rally GB, it'll be good to see Colin back in a WR car and is certainly a good move for Skoda - the interest generated will be huge.

I think we should all be a little wary! I mean Paasonnen, Armin and Tuohino are no mugs, simply putting Colin in the car is not suddenly gonna make it quick!
Colin has openly admitted in the past that he struggles with the new kind of driving style and setup needed to make modern cars work!
But it seems the FIA are bowing to requests becasue I am sure I have read that they are thinking of banning active diffs or at least active centres arent they!
The Skoda should be a good car but this year has reall been truly awful, nowhere near the pace despite the team spending more money and hiring allegedly more focussed engineers!

Correct. Drivers are not everything that is required to go quick. However I think this combination could work. The Fabia has come a long way and is actually finishing rallies. Banning the active diffs now is an interesting idea. I like close competitive racing (A1GP and Cart provide that on the circuit) but at the same time the development of technology. Is there such a thing as ahappy medium. What amazes me is how virtual spectator shows the different drivers and cars closely placed on rally stages. Therefore some of the FIA rules are having the desired effect. Lets hope changes are made for the right reasons. Imagine if safety had been improved in the Group B erra!

Imagine if 4wd had been banned in 1980. We might have still had something recognisable as rallying.
