At the IAA in Frankfurt the new BMW WTCC will be launched. The car has a 2L four-cylinder (!!!) in-line engine which delivers 275 bhp at 8.400/rpm.

Splitting this out as there's not enough thread seperation in this forum!

Plus, that thing deserves a thread of it's own. Almost makes the new BMW 3-series not look so lame at all!

What a stunner!

I think it may well be in that livery - I'm told BMW is going traditional in '06, and that livery will be on the F1 cars too.

In F1 BMW allowes only blue/white logo's on the car. Why isn't this in WTCC?

The red/blue/white livery is the nicest one.

Is it correct a 4 cylinder is better suited for racing then a 6 cylinder?
The saloon shape is aerodynaic better than a hatch.
Conclusion: BMW is the biggest candidate for the title?

Blue & white are BMW's 'house' colours. The red is more of a racing identity.

Awesome this new machine. And BMW uses again a car with 4-cylinder engine, i hope can be so successful as BMW M3 was.
People won´t say that BMW wins because of more revs.

I suspect the cars will not be in dissimilar colours to the works M3 GTRS that did the ring and the V12 LM's

Looks sensational. As someone mentioned above - how to turn an ordinary looking car into a good looking race car.

Don't know if the 320si is a 320i with special parts (i.e. suspension or aerodynamics) build for homologation (2500 cars) of the racing cars or a normal 320i with some extra bhp, spoilers and wheels.

Agree it looks like an H-pattern. Also the specified weight (1140 kg) seems to indicated an H-pattern. RWD with sequential 'box would be 1170 kg.

You can never trust largely BMW/MB car badging anymore. They sometimes mean what they badge, sometimes not.
