Aussie nascar
i have put this on the Oz touring car bit but i thought i would ask you guys too. i am trying to find out what happened to the Australian nascar series founded by Bob Janes. did it die or is it still going? any help greatfully excepted. cheers.

It died for various reasons. Non of which I know.

I was there
I was a regular Nascar fan at the Thunderdome downunder.
Early on Bob Jane (the promoter, builder/owner of the facility, almost a Penske like figure in Australian motorsport on & off the track) bankrolled cars from the States but this petered out & the local teams provided some good racing. Politics played a part in the demise of the racing but I do not know the detail - lots of rumour, no fact. The final season saw the main race finish under yellows too often, & it was symptomatic of the way racing finished. |
