Silverstone F1 testing

Am I right in thinking that from the 1st-3rd June at Silverstone is the official F1 test where nearly all teams will run in preparation for the GP in July?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

That was the original plan; then Ferrari booked an exclusive test later in the month; the rest of the teams complained; Ferrai offered to let them join (despite being within the 4 week period before a GP when - in theory - there shouldn't be testing at that track).

Ferrari subsequentally pulled the plug on the exclusive test idea.

Most other teams booked Silverstone for April (the week following Imola) but cancelled a couple of days before due to an iffy weather forecast - only Jordan and Williams attended in the end. The others went to continental Europe.

So - we're in a position where only Williams, Jordan (and earlier in the year) Renault have run at S'stone. Given the new rules and regs teams are going to need to test to get data ahead of the July 10th race.

Therefore - its a safe asumption that there should be quite a bit of running on 1st - 3rd June test, curiously held on a Weds through Friday.

I believe 6 teams are currently booked, including Ferrari. I'd suggest checking with the track before attending, especially anyone travelling a long distance.

For those not aware, viewing from the Complex terracing is free; through Silverstone hospitality passes can be purchased, or various fan clubs have hospitality days planned as well.

Thanks. I knew there was a major test before the GP and of the Ferrari test. I knew the Ferrari only test would never go through.

Looking at the Silverstone website they do list the 1st-3rd June as F1 testing and that is it and no other dates so I did think that would be the main one. But thanks for putting my mind at rest.

Autosport expect Williams, McLaren, Renault, Jordon, Red Bull, Toyota and Ferrari to attend.

IMHO, I'd say Williams might be the only ones to drop off this list as they tested in April. Jordan might only test for one or two days. I'm surprised that BAR aren't on that list (they haven't run at Silverstone at all this year so this test is there last opportunity to do so before the British GP). Sauber say they will be at Imola, Minardi usually can't afford the trip.

>Ferrari subsequentally pulled the plug on the exclusive test idea.
Is this official??......it just wouldn't surprise me if they turned up 1-3 June, 21-24 June, and ran tests in parallel at Mugello too !!! I know it was dependent on others not turning up and don't see it listed on the silverstone website (but then private tests never are - like McLaren's V8 run last week for example).

Jim.

According to the Autosport lady, "The teams* expected to attend this test are Williams, McLaren, Renault, Jordon, Red Bull, Toyota and Ferrari". Subject to changes obviously.

I am at the Nurburgring this weekend and hope to get back for Wednesday's test.

Should be a complete list of teams apart from Minardi.

As my old pappy used to say "Its not what you know its who you know" as well as being in the right place at the right time.

I liked your article. I just hope that the organisers of the Australian Grand Prix don't read it and get any ideas because at the moment, access to the drivers is quite good, if you know where to go. I've been fortunate enough, for example, to have my photo taken with Jacques and Jenson, and have plenty of autographs from almost everyone except Michael Schumacher, who does tend to adopt the siege mentality wherever he goes around the track.

Great article thank you, I am not sure why Montoya considers being aloof, he has nothing to be aloof about. The Goodwood festival of Speed sounds like a great deal of fun.

Just out of interest, would you prefer to go on the first or the last day?

This is not set in stone but what often happens is that test drivers do the bulk of the first day with the race drivers coming in to do the next couple of days, meaning that the last day is often the best.

I'll be there for all 3 days... But I might skip the Wednesday morning in favour of sleep, since for my full time employment I am working nights. Lucikly I have secured each of the 3 nights off for the actual test.

Admission is free. Public viewing is available from Bridge round to Cospe. As it's the main test at Silverstone of the year, the pitstraight grandstand is likely to be open.

There will be plenty of burger vans dotted about.

Track opens from 9.00. to 12.00, and then 13.00 - 17.00.
