BGP Volunteering Form 2013
Got my form yesterday to volunteer for the British GP 2013.. On the note that accompanies it, it says need to have done 12 days in a 12 month period. However, the form itself says 12 days in the 2012 season! Which is correct?

I would imagine since its a 2013 race, the days in question are in the 2012 season. But what do I know.
Are you guys getting these forms now as returning officials, ie. first dibs to apply? |

Yes I am a bit confused. I have done more than 12 days in the last 12 months but, sadly, not 12 days in 2012.
Guess I could apply and see what happens. |

This year I have just upgraded from Trainee to track, so does that mean that I can apply for the Grand Prix?

Jacko - will you have done 12 days by the end of the season?
Benj - you should get one from your club. If none, ask the MSA |

Great, thanks for the clarification, I shall wait eagerly for it to come through the door from the BMMC.

It's pretty much all electronic now Benj. It may be included as an attachment with a newsletter or via the website. Mine was emailed from the SMT

Include a note with your application if you feel you have mitigating circumstances. Didn't work for me last year but worth a try

Depends on what you're applying to do really. Track/Flag are usually oversubscribed by enough that less than 12 will mean you don't get in. Other disciplines are sometimes short.

Hopefully I'll get my flag assessment done tomorrow and that should complete my upgrade from trainee to track. Cutting it fine I know but anyone reckon I'll get on the GP?
I've done about 17 days this season. |

Believe you need 12 days at the grade you are volunteering for. So everything this season as trainee doesn't count

The criteria are number of days done (with 12 minimum) and being at least Track at point of application. It doesn't matter if some of the days are while still at Trainee.
I'd point out though that 12 days is very much a minimum. Applications are usually oversubscribed and those with the most days get in first. The actual cut-off is likely to be high teens. |

It's worth giving it a go, Matt. I had just upgraded to track when I applied for my first GP and hadn't had my paperwork back from the MSA. I put a letter in with my form explaining the situation & apologising if I wasn't actually eligible to apply. I got a thanks but no thanks letter from IMS (the GP organisers) with the offer for a spectator marshal's post instead. I jumped at this chance then, when Silverstone decided to use the new, slightly longer circuit, I got offered a place as an incident marshal!

I have always taken it as rolling 12 months, and had no problems. your experience may vary, as will the advice of others on here. |
