Aston Martin DBRS9

Aston Martin will be selling a DBR9 derived road car: the DBRS9. The aerodynamics really resemble the DBR9 a lot, it has 550 hp (20% more than a standard DB9) and by using lots of carbon parts they managed to make it 480 kg lighter than the original DB9.

The article on lemans.com mentioned that Cirtek wants to race the DBR9 at Spa.

Quote:
A team that will be spending that kind of money is Cirtek, the Russian-financed racing team based at the Mallory Park circuit in England. The team’s new DBR9 is also on show in the Aston Martin enclosure at Le Mans, and team boss Robert Schirle plans to have it on the line for the start of the Spa 24 Hours.

Add the Ferrari FXX and the DBRS9 and you'd have the makings of a Group N type supercar class.

With Ratel taking a close interest in the car, expect it to figure in FIA GT in some capacity.

But reading the reports it doesnt seem to be designed around any classification, but they say its suppoed to fill a void they identified. GT2 was mentioned, but they also mentioned national and club events! Has the budget around national series got that large now!

The title of this thread was referring to a road going version of the DBR9, called the DBRS9, but we seem to have moved onto Cirtek wanting to race a DBR9 at Spa. This is a separate issue (and, as FIRE, says, old news) since the Cirtek car is surely one of the customer racing cars discussed elsewhere on 10-Tenths. I blame gwyllion for confusing the issue, or is it me that's confused?

The DBRS9 is also designeed as a race car for natrional series etc.

As I understand it Cirtek may race the DBRS9 as well, not sure though.

But in wich class would it go then? It'd be too weak for GT1 and too strong for GT2. Do we have to think series like Spanish GT and BELCAR then?

Ratel was in attendance and there was speculation about a new class.

This car is not being designed as a road car at all. It is being deisgned at as a track day car/national racer.

That came from ss_collins who was at the launch of it yesterday...he says the Champagne was very nice, thank you Mr Richards!!

Correct, but in a interview with www.dailysportscar.com (who were also present at the launch) yesterday the Chief Engineer Graham Humphry's did say that "anything's possible" with regard to the car possibly racing in the GT2 class, although the car hasnt been designed for GT2. I guess it just depends on the level of interest.

Personally I hope this car does make a appearnce in GT2, or indeed G2 for cars that are not homlogated. Perhaps, just perhaps this car could appear in FIA GT...

yeah, it would be good to see the aston hanging around in a couple of other race classes aswell.

it's good that they developed the DBR9 series early on, as it will be around for a long time (not like the one that develop the cars after a couple of years and the race versions only last a saeson or two)

Just back from LM, I saw the 2 Aston's in the paddock on Friday morning and I just thought they where both customer cars. I take it that the DBRS9 is a GT2 car.

David Richards said that the car has NOT been designed as a GT3RSR-beater... more for your wealthy (!!) Aston enthusiast, who wants to do AMOC meetings in something newer than a DB4GT, track days etc etc etc... deffo NOT built to ANYONE's rules... just made into a nice tool for FUN in its owner's hands

Maybe Prodrive should build the DBR7 for GT2.

I think they are just carried away by the great response to the Aston Martin DBR9. I heard they sold at least 10 cars already.

yep, ten cars is a lot, and they'll sell more (obviously) but i mean a lot more after le mans. i wonder what they'll enter the dbr series for next year in le mans?

if they enter for the same class, they should (in theory) win their class.

Ratel sees that in the future the cost of GT racing must come down.
There may be a new class (GT3) in GT racing for "Cup" cars like the Porsche Supercup, the Ferrari F430 Challenge, the Aston DBRS9, etc.

Slightly tuned engines that will last a season, cheaper gearboxes, etc.

Each car manufacturer in the series will enter 5 or 6 cars for a 30 car grid.
May be even more spectacular than the FIA GT!!

This is a class that could also work for National Championships where the running costs for GT1 and GT2 cars are much higher. If they are all running 6 seconds slower but close together the racing will be just as good.
