ITV coverage of the BTCC in 2005
I see from today Motorsport News that ITV are planning on show to final race of each round LIVE. The whole program will last about 90 minutes and contain the highlights from 1 and 2. There are also plans for highlights the same evening.
This is fantastic news, this is the best TV package the BTCC has ever had. |

Well, that's good news - (both Ben & the 90 minutes)...
I notice 6 of the 10 events clash with the DTM this year though - is Harvey having another shot at the Porsche Cup (or BTCC?) title this year, or might he be forced to decide which to commentate on? |

Tim Harvey's plans for 2005 may depend on how he got over the disapointment of losing the Porsche championship in the last couple of races. And if he can get a deal together.
When you are comparing Ben Edwards to Charlie Cox, just be thankful that James Allen who does F1 for ITV is not in the equation. If it wasn't for Martin Brundle, I would have the sound off. Imagine watching Motor Racing with the sound off. Last edited by btccnews; 6 Jan 2005 at 09:56. |

Can't half be as bad as watching it in German! (If you can't speak it that is).
As have had to watch the DPM (and the German Champcar races, though that's a different grumble) |

Ben and Charlie would be something of a dream lineup of BTCC - although I'd accept losing Ben from BTCC if it meant he'd replace Dullard for F1.
Great to have a live race from each round, although it's not a big net advance in the level of coverage over 2004. Clearly the live races late last year were a big success, and ITV are confident of a big field (either that or, worried about a small/uncompetitive field, TOCA have dropped their prices). |

I find it strange that neither the story in Motorsport News, nor the story in Autosport had any quotes from either Alan Gow or anyone from ITV.
That suggests to me that the story has either been made up because it was a slow news week (very unlikely), or has been deliberately leaked by one side or the other. ITV don't get any advantage out of the leak, so that points to someone at TOCA. ...and the final clue can be found in the last line of the Autosport version of the story: "Series boss Alan Gow says he is confident of a third marque joining the series." Could it be that Alan needs confimation of the TV deal to convince this manufacturer to join? |

The TV deal is definitely happening - and definitely happening in the manner suggested by the report.

Boots On The Side: what do you mean by TOCA has dropped its price at the end of your post? |

I thought TOCA payed ITV if anything ??
Re Alan Gow's quote, was it year specific ? Because he has stated in the past he is confident Ford will be back, sooner or later.. |

If this does happen it will be great news. Great if we can get a decent sized field..
