It is looking great if you happen to be a Holden fan. But hey, as said, it is only P1 and things change very fast in the practices.

My guess is there a big gains in new/er tyres. Estimate pole to be very low 55 sec, perhaps high 54..

Ambrose was leading for the first few laps, and then during a red-flag period went in and changed springs.
After that, he was slower, but the SBR engineers are not at all worried. The car, according to them, will be back on pace tomorrow. |

The circuit is now very rubber friendly with the new surface. It no longer tears up the left rear.

It will get quicker as the weekend gets along, providing the rain keeps away...

Cripes!!! Murph a 55.68 in 1st practice...
Beats the Rat's old record from 2001 by a second and a half! Which begs the question. Is Barbagallo the shortest track (in time) in Supercar-dom? |

Ambrose seemed to be exploring the limits
He was the only one seriously on two wheels over the curb at the exit to the esses. Didn't look like the fastest way,but was fun to watch .
The resurfacing seems to have removed the bump near/after that same curb that would upset the cars on the braking to the left hander up the hill. It used to be a pretty good way to tell who had their suspension sussed. |

Ambrose missed his setup completely (they used last years) - he has to go the opposite way tomorrow.
Lowndes was playing with shocks and tyres and went nowhere. He will probably wait for Seto to get it right??? Last edited by retro; 11 Jun 2004 at 10:49. |

More info on the FPR engines for those that wanted to know. Definatly the Prodrive spec at Wanneroo. They are however playing with using some componentry from the old JSR units, definately no new JSR engines or mystery US engines according to CL today. I heard Lowndes give an interview about 2 weeks ago where he is not blaming the engines for the current suituation - he is blaming the chassis. Believe it if you will.

I spoke to Seto briefly about the engines on wed night and had a chat with CL about them today, he said you know they are still the pommie engines because you can here them whine when the cars go past, when asked if they will get it right he said well the poms won the war didn't they
Also asked him why they havn't used SBR engines in the interim, answer was pride as I suspected, interestingly he said they where offered to FPR too! Good to see he's sticking with the team though, top bloke to talk to as well Just this second got the latest weather, shower increasing and a storm brewing for the morning Last edited by Conrod Kieron; 11 Jun 2004 at 11:46. |

I am sure SBR could supply engines for a little less than prodrive UK were charging

If it is the engines at FPR then surely Ford could have one of the SBR engines *fall* of the back of a truck.
