Speedvision Guys go too far

Has nobody explained to the Speed Channel crew that "Frog" when used to describe a French person is pejorative and very rude? I counted at least half a dozen times when they used this term, including calling him a "green frog" because his car is now green. This is just like calling Max Papis a "wop" or Alex Yoong a "wog".

Personally I don't even really find their referring to him as "Kermit" very funny, although he does appear to tolerate it. But IMO they have taken this way too far and I wish they'd stop it.

The PC police strike again!!!

While I understand your concerns, I guess, I can't see how in the manner they used the term how it was susposed to be an insult. Because every one knows, if there is one segment of the population that has been oppressed, it is the French! People these days are too up tight about things!!!

I think the whole Kermit joke was started by his team, and I think Sebastien sees it as just that, a joke. But I completely agree with you, Liz. There's no excuse for calling him a frog during the commentary, and there's absolutely no need for it whatesoever.

They wouldn't be saying it if they knew Bourdais was offended by it. It's no more offensive than PT saying "fo shizzle my nizzle".

In defense of all nizzle shizzlers out there, I would like to say PT offended me and should be tarred and feathered in a public square!

I thought Kendall's comments on Bourdais sponsor were just as bad, but largely unnoticed. I am of course referring to his new sponsor which is a Viagra-like drug. Comments like "he's giving Tracy stiff competition" were a lot more offensive than the leaping frog. In fact how about the whole Kendallschlong business. I thought it was funny, but not in the best of taste. People sometimes need to lighten up a bit.

Im against it just because idiots like TK and Daly say it 3 times a sentence as they circle **** each other to a coolness nirvanna.

Though I laughed pretty hard when I heard a team member refer to his car as the Lilly Pad earlier in the season

It's not ok for the crew at Speed Channel to say "Frog", but it's ok for us at 10/10ths to say it?

Jokes like that are only offensive if you have a dirty enough mind to interpret it as such.

The Speed crews absolute silence after the comment led me to believe: 1) that they in fact do have a dirty mind as I suspected, or 2) don't have a clue. I'm guessing number 1.

I must say that the commentators are much better that Jack Arute and crew.

Didn't a toy frog grace the cowling of Sebastien's car earlier in the season? You can't tell me he wasn't going along comfortably with the "joke" with that appearing on world TV.

I think this is overblown, and folks should be able to take a little ribbing once in awhile. I see Seb as a strong racer, not as an oppressed victim of political correctness. I think he would want us to view him that way.

It depends...the word "frog" seems to be something that bothers French Canadians, but not so much the French from France, so maybe it's alright with Bourdais? He doesn't seem to mind the nickname kermit...

It's a bit like "n" word for the African American community in Quebec - it's a horrible word...when used by someone outside the community, but within the community it's common use and accepted.

Call me naive but why would "frog" be offensive? I've called my parents "toads" for years and they didn't mind.

To be honest the jokes during that time made it quite entertaining because the race was like watching F1 a couple of years ago. If you think what they say on TV is bad, hang around the paddocks and garages during the course of the weekend. It's all in fun!

As far as P.T. statements earlier in the year "fo shizzle my nizzle", no offense at all. Being a native of California and growing up in Los Angeles, My wife and I just laughed when we heard it, and she was born and raised in Georgia. I'm glad to see that Paul is diverse like that and not dense like some other drivers I've known.

why would fo shizzle my nizzle be at all inappropriate? It made Tracy look like a poser, but there's nothing about it thats offensive

Don't go to France and say "I don't speak Frog" when they address you in French. You'll find out really fast that they don't think you are funny. If the announce group were the kind of people who don't travel or meet "furriners" much, I might have thought they just didn't know any better. But this lot do know better.

As for the "product remark" by the eternal frat boy TK, he also made a rude comment about how it would "get a rise out of Carl Haas" which was greeted with silence from his partner in the box.

I have no idea what that rap talk means, so I treat it as if he were speaking Tagalog.

Liz, you disappoint me! I always thought you hated all the PC garbage that's going on out there. Guess I was wrong.

the CART group- commentators and drivers have become a stronger 'fraternity' since speed coverage has grown, Frog jokes and lilly product jokes, and Nizzle things, it is their comraderie which dosn't translate well to TV, after all they are all hard core racers and fans, and TK is a Trans-Am champ multiple ties over, and is even encouraged to get 'colorful' with the likes of Planet TK and Kendallschlong business, it is all in good fun and I think they are trying to get a new 'X-games' audience by allowing the tad 'un-pc' stuff to fill up the waves. by being PC conscious and acting UnPC I think they get the fun across. I certainly like TK in the booth- now Daly that's another story,
the thing is no body at Speed knows when a joke should be laid to rest, No TK, Daly, Waltrip or the guy with bad hair and no eyebrows who says 'Buckle up Buttercup' because that just isn't funny at all.

Russfeld,
It's hard to explain "nizzle" is an incog' slang name for another word!

Liz,
I went to LeMans, France and the "non public assistance folks" treated me like an outcast majority of the time for not speaking French but I didn't mark the entire country for that!

Also when I went to Montreal, it wasn't much better but the people in Trois Rivieres were cool!

Racing society is nothing but a big FRAT Corporation!
It's all in fun! Contact some of the female owners in the Toyota Atlantic Series if you want to verify that.

I think Liz is correct here. There are a ton of things my freinds and I say to each other which are said in the spirit of commraderie and are totally not PC. Amongst us they are hilarious but that does not make them fit for public consumption.

Granted, he's not high profile but given Geoff Boss drives a yellow and black car where are the WASP jokes and "oh that stings" commentary?
