SRP II gone by the end of the year
Thats funny, this was a class they were "fully committed" to last year, then packed on weight, fuel, and air restrictions and wondered why no one showed up.
Does this give the BMW Pichico the SRP II title? "SportsRacing Prototype II cars are no longer eligible as of January 1, 2004. Note: While Grand American Road Racing had committed to, and was willing to offer a championship for SRP-II cars through the end of the 2004 season, the entrant base has diminished to the point that maintaining a championship beyond the 2003 season is untenable." |

From what I recall, this was GA's plan all along.

Eliminating SRP-I, II, replacing it with Daytona SportsPrototype, and Amalgamating GTS, AGT, and GT into a single category might be the only thing that keeps them around.
The problem was doing this in a piece-meal fashion over the present two-year span. Not giving the chassis builders sufficient time to design, build, and develop their DSP entries, while expecting them to have cars ready to go by the opening race of the next season was a major, but not the first mistake made. It would've been better to have the previous categories "Grandfathered" in, allowing time to have the new cars brought up to speed, with minimal teething problems. A gradual process that allows the "phasing out" of the categories that have lived past their purpose, and gives the newer ones time to grow and flourish. Shame that the present group of people in charge of Grand Am will realize this after '05, when the majority of these decisions have become the albatross that sinks them. Live & learn, I guess. |

Even the poor little Picchio doesn't come out and play.
Where are those Lolas? They aren't in ALMS. Are they just shelf items now? |

I'm betting will see a few Lolas show up here and there now that the ALMS is just now about to truly start. Other than that, "shelf items" is probably an acurrate term for them. This years Dyson effort will most likely kill the categaory, because everyone knows they haven't got a shot at beating them.
