Spa 6 Hours 2005
It falls to me to commence our annual ramble up to, around and away from the Spa 6 hours. Why? Because my entry goes in to Top Hat tomorrow.

Yes but you are reaping the rewards of all the hard work you've been putting in. If you'll pardon the expression.

If I can qualify as well as your Merlyn did last year I will be very happy! I would like to finish near the pointy end but being realistic I will be happy to finish!

I'd say a finish first time out in a 6 hour race would be an achievement in itself
as and when we've proved our cars reliability a bit more I'd like to have a crack at the 6 hour myself, assuming I can find some like minded idiots, sorry, competitors, to share the costs and driving . . . |

Well if it rains the GT40's go slower and they're easier to overtake.

good point Peter, I was quite suprised how slow they where to be honest, or should I say how unfast they where, I thought they'd be much quicker
it was the Chevron and the Dulon that frightened the living daylights out of me ! the RS escort and BMW batmobile wherent hanging around either |

the contrast of 70's cars on yoki's against appdx k dunlops in the corners when damp is the frightening part... especially if the 70's pilote is not used to how the dunlop shod cars slide around in the wet

Yes but they can't run on Yoki's anymore. And also the Group 2 cars such as the Batmobile have to run on the L section tyres.
Also its pretty clear to me that 90% of the drivers out there are experienced enough to give the L section tyred cars a wider berth in corners. I do make the exception for Mustang drivers who don't know how un grippy their tyres really are. |

I was suprised once or twice at Spa, but on the whole I was very impressed with the driving standard, with one or two minor exceptions of road hogging reports and a roll by the MKVII Jag causing a safety car

Well somebody should be checking then. They do in Top Hat and 70's saloons. Quote:
I don't know where tha Jag rolled but I suspect it was Puhon(?). If so its not unusual for this to happen there, which is why you need to respect that corner in particular. |
