Wow, that's pretty good. I'm thinking more of the Super Touring days.

The Sierra Cosworth RS500s were easily the fastest, although if the Nissan GTR Group A car that raced in Australia and blew away the Sierra's ever reached Britain.........

As for Super Touring, nowhere near Group A speeds, but i think Plato set the fastest average lap time ever in the Vectra at Thruxton in 2000.

Oh absolutley, The Class A cars were of course faster than the STs. I didn't mean average speed, I meant fastest in a straight line.

I'm guessing the fastest speed for a BTCC car is about 140-150mph (230-240km). The highest theoretical(??) speed is about 170mph for a ST car. I recall the ST cars in Germany and at Bathurst reached about 163-165mph (270km).

The fastest qualifying time at Thruxton in 1999 was 1:15.100, which is an AVERAGE of over 112mph, which is quite impressive. Top speeds must be around the 150mph mark.

The last thing I heard was that Plato still held the Bathurst top ST speed at 164mph down Conrod Straight in 97' in a 97' Williams Renault Laguna.
