Not the greatest race. Robbie Gordon had a nightmare, Jeff Gordon dominated.
Jnr had a busy day, spun twice and still managed to claw his way back to just short of the top 10. |

Race was OK, not as good as most taxi road races but OK just the same.
Jeff is a genius on these road circuits - would love to have seen this guy go to Europe when he was younger. |

I enjoyed the race - some of the top liners had problems with the corners. NASCAR should do more circuit racing.

Actually I take that back. Now I've re-watched the race sober, I'll revise it to not very exciting up front. Mc Murray gave him a run but wasn't ever going to get past him even if he got there.
Someone ought to string up Mayfield for driving back out in front of the pack after his spin though. Although DW gave me the biggest laugh I've ever had in motorsports with the "Don't shoot Hammond it's not a deer!" comment. Where did all that extra steelwork sticking out of the 19 car come from anyway? Craven didn't hit him, and Schrader lost 6 or 7 places driving around him so it wasn't his either. Any ideas? Agree I'd like to see another road race or two but the way things are going don't be surprised to see two more "cookie cutter" tracks instead. Yawn. |

Why they don't try to do something different - like Nazareth, Pocono (BOTH in Pennsylvania, intresting) or narrow wiener - like shape of Martinsville.

I agree. Unfotunately it's all down to economics. When they build a new track they want it to make money obviously so they need to attract more than just NASCAR. They need Indycar as well. But the Indycars don't want short tracks or steep banked tracks so you always end up with the same configuration
At least that's what I read somewher I may not be dead on with that. When they built an oval in the UK called Rockingham they had planned to put fairly steep banking in but the Indycar league told them they wouledn't race there if it was higher than 9 degrees so they lowered it. They didn't go for the same boring layout though, they went for a kind of square shape. Take a look, it's a decent facility. www.rockingham.co.uk |
