Here's one to get you thinking?Who do you think is good enough for a BTCC works drive [no current drivers or privateers] next season, and who should they maybe replace? Choose anyone from the club scene from 2cv's to gt's?????

Colin McCrae
Actually, I've not seen anyone this year who has particularly impressed me. I've seen a lot of people who don't behave (e.g. Clios and VWs!) and hope they don't get into touring cars. Hmmm. Sorry for being negative. |

There are 3 drivers in the Formula Saloons that would not embarass themselves in BTCC. They are Graham Coomes and the Woodcock brothers. Other than that Lee Caroline.

There are a few drivers in the Castle Combe FF1600 and Saloon championships who would probably show pretty strongly if they tested and had the right budget etc. Gary Prebble, Tim Hanlon and Mark Wyatt from the Saloons. Matt Rivett, Alex Ames and a few other of the front runners in FF1600. Away from Combe people like Rob Huff and Micheal Vergers, along with a few other Radical drivers could be quick.

Ditto TFG !!, although I think that in the same cars as the current BTCC drivers I would put half a dozen Formula Saloon drivers before the likes of Muller, Thompson etc....
Most national series drivers race with the thought ' what if I crash, how much is it going to cost to repair', that adds many seconds to a lap time, take the financial worry away and who knows how quick you could go. |

As already mentioned by Patrick :
Rob Huff - just look at those results in his 1st season ! Michael Vergers - He is an incredible all round talent, after all it has only been an established fact for a decade now ! |

What about Andrew Kirkaldy? How is it his name is missing off these lists? One of the stars of this years Clio cup and then jumps straight into a rear whell drive Ferrari at Thruxton and sets a lap record. This weekend scores pole and a race win in Clios and 30 mins later jumps into the Ferrari and is immediately on the pace again?
I just can't understand why he keeps getting overlooked. He has bags of talent and no backing, ok it's the same for heaps of drivers but here's one with a good record, very PR friendly, a great asset for any team so lets see him in a top team again in 2003 in some decent formula BTCC, FIA GT's or even F3000 yoiu can be sure he would be great to watch with some top results to match. |

Having said that he has been very good from all accounts in Clios which are not an easy car to drive. My serious vote goes to Rob Huff though. |

There are some very good reasons that I won't go into, why He didn't do as well as he could have done in his time at Stewart F3, not least the fact that the team itself wasn't as dominant as it had been previously.
I would say the McLaren test was pretty inconclusive as the conditions were much wetter (or damper!) when AK was in the car. General feedback was apparently very favourable within the team after the test. No doubt the fact that Button turned up with a posse of managers helped his cause, I have no idea what AK's management are like or who it consists of but perhaps they need to push him forward more. It's little things like that that make all the difference in motorsport these days, talent doesn't alway get you the recognition you deserve. You only have to look to Alex Yoong to prove that point, AK was his team mate in Macau, AY was there for the second time and AK was light years ahead! |
