Carburetion Day Results

Here are the Top Ten speeds from Carburetion Day runs at the Brickyard.....ended about an hour ago...

1. K. Brack 228.707
2. R. Gordon 227.850
3. DeFarran 227.812
4. G. Ray 227.812
5. S. Dixon 227.714
6. Helio 226.993
7. T. Renna 226.700
8. T. Kanaan 226.700
9. Scheckter 226.358
10. Sharp 226.224

NOTES: Michael Andretti was a tick slower in 11th, and the last car above 226 m.p.h.

Dan Wheldon either just took a slow spin to make sure that there were no oil leaks, etc., and garaged it, or he had problems, because he only ran about 130 m.p.h....there were no notes concerning a problem so, it was probably the former...

The top Foyt car was Aryton Dare and he was 20th on the board...

Of cars that went "up to speed," Sarah Fisher was the slowest...

** If you want to pick a "Dark Horse," go with Greg Ray...he also has been "quietly fast" all month long, and everybody behind the scenes, crew chief, mechanics, engineers, etc.) have all been involvedwith either Indy 500 winning teams or with Champ Car-type season championships....

Sorry...Sarah Fisher ran a 218 m.p.h. as her best as the slowest car up to speed...

Wheldon did only 4 or 5 laps, so he probably was just warming up the oil and making sure all of the fittings were tight...but I don't know for sure....

Others of Note:

Vasser was 15th

Barron was 16th

Al Unser Jr. was 19th

Foyt's cars were 20th (Dare), 27th (Hattori) and A.J. IV is listed above....

Shouldn't it be called Fuel Injection Day?

Tradition is "King" at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway...

As a local gear head, we always laugh about "Curburetion Day," even thought they haven't had carburetors for decades, as well as the garage area, known as "Gasoline Alley," when methanol has been the fuel used for decades as well....

But the names of both will not change...they are distinctive and define events and areas of the Brickyard that people know and recognize...

even if you DID change them, people would call them "Carburetion Day" and "Gasoline Alley" in the same way that Le Mans fans always talk about the "Pre-Qualifying Day" in May when it has nothing to do with qualifying or making the grade to come back in June, and has been changed to Test Day...but nobody calls it that....

Dan Wheldon had a problem with the electrics i believe and didnt get to do much running at all , in fact for the pitstop competition Michael used Dans spare car and that also had a problem this time with the throttle sticking open and he defaulted the pitstop comp.

a good final shake down for everyone else though , no major dramas that i saw so lets hope its a cracker on sunday.
