How big/popular is Selenia Motor Oils?

You often(always???) see Selenia as a sponsor on Alfa Romeo cars? But why don't you see them sponsoring other makes like BMW, Honda,et..? Surely, BMW also wins a lot of races as well? Do they have some sort of special relationship with Alfa? Is Selenia the OEM supplier for all Alfa Romeo cars? Or is Selenia only popular/used in Italy? 'Cause Mobil 1 and Castrol seem to be the most popular brands in Europe?

Is Valvoline or Pennzoil Motor Oils available in Europe? I've seen Pennzoil sponsor some Aussie ST cars.

Selenia is a wholly owned subsidary of the fiat group, previously known as "olio fiat". Basicly its a way to spread the cost of the racing program through several parts of the group. I would expect that Selinia are the oem supplia for all fiat group vegicles.

Valvoline in avalable in the uk, not seen Penzoil though.

I seem to remember that Penzoil sponsored a Porsche GT1 in the British GT series a few years back. I don't visit the auto stores all that often which may stock Penzoil products, but I haven't noticed them in the mainstream filling stations in the UK.

Selenia WAS a wholly owned subsidary of the fiat group, three years ago was sold the managers were running it. But still is the official, and only motor oil supplier for the Fiat group, Ferrari excluded...of course

Yep...my Fiat fanatic brother-in-law uses only Selenia for his car although it's hard to find it here.

Oh, no offense intended, but I find that is kinda "corny" and lame--the fact that Selenia is also a Fiat owned brand!!

OTOH, you have to admit it's a smart way of spreading out the racing costs among all the Fiat owned companies.

Oh yeah, I forgot that Valvoline used to sponsor Ford's Mondeo team. They have sponsored them for quite some time. I guess their lack of success led Valvoline to jump ship. But what happened to them? Valvoline kinda disappeared from the UK motorsports scene?

Valvolines still associated with Ford in the WRC (not 100% if they still are this year?)

kmchow, I have to disagree with you that sponsoring the Alfas with a Fiat-owned brand of oil is lame. I think it is a very very smart marketing move. The Fiat group will get more Alfa Romeo sales that way and sell some oil as well...it is a very bright idea. Also for you people in Europe, the oil company is spelled "Pennzoil" not Penzoil. It is a company that also owns Quaker State oil and it is based out of Texas (Dallas?) I believe. Anyone heard of the famous achitectual study, "Pennzoil Place" in Dallas?

Used to know a girl called Selina, she was popular. She was from Pakistan. Nothing to do with Alfa's or oil but just thought you might like to know it is a real persons name. Very pretty as well she was.

The Selenia/Olio Fiat brands have been on Fiat/Alfa etc competition cars for years- Fiat's rally cars carried a blue & yellow Olio Fiat livery in the mid-70's.

I don't find it corny at all- they're not the only manufacturer to have used an 'in-house' sponsor- think back to all of those BMWs carrying 'BMW Original Parts' livery over the years, and Mercedes did something similar in the DTM

okay, okay, I'm getting even more lame... I guess I was suprised that Alfa had links to an oil company company. A link like that is harder to tell for us non-Europeans. At least with BMW Original parts and MB's 24 service I can easily distinguish who is paying the sponsor bill. Also, it's the same as GM Goodwrench (Opel/Vauxhall in NA) over here in Cascar/Nascar country!

Most of the oil deals are tied to OEM business. Sponsorship is not just about the branding on the cars. In fact signage on the cars may be only 10 percent of the reason you see an oil company logo on a factory backed race car.

How about Agip? They are also an Italian oil company? Are they still around? Haven't heard much about them? Too bad Cibiemme doesn't run BMWs anymore. It would be interesting to see their multi-coloured Castrol sponsored BMW again.

The works BTCC Proton's funded quite heavily by Petronas, even though Petronas don't sell their product in the UK.

From a marketing perspective, I do wonder why Petronas is spending money all this money, but getting relatively no return on their investment.

However, it is clear that Petronas has been very supportive in fostering their current crop Malaysian drivers. This is something like that as a Canadian, I wish we we had companies that would do the same.

Well I think it's because both companies are Malaysian and they see the BTCC as the best in the world and want to beat everyone (they will one day! )
